Last week, we decided to stop by this restaurant. We opted for a small glass of wine, a beer, and a bowl of chips. However, we were informed that there would be a half-hour wait just for the chips. The drinks were served in dirty glasses, and we were seated at a table that appeared to have not been cleaned in years. To make matters worse, we were charged £16.00 for the chips, wine, and beer. The chips were microwaved and unappetizing, and the mayo looked unappetizing. It's disappointing that this establishment does not offer fresh, clean food or a pleasant atmosphere. The landlord would be better off returning to his previous job. I strongly recommend avoiding this place and instead visiting...
First visit since it's facelift and a real pleasure to visit and have a meal. Excellent meal, friendly helpful staff who make you feel welcome from the minute you step inside and nothing is too much trouble..Harriet our waitress is like a breath of fresh air...friendly, bubbly and chatty and will change anything on the menu to suit your requirements...a real pleasure and we will definately be visiting more often and very deserving of the 5 star rating......
We had been wanting to check out this pub for a while, but ended up at The Black Horse due to a kitchen issue at our original spot. And I'm so glad we did! The bar staff was cheerful and friendly, managing both the bar and food service on their own. The gammon steaks were delicious and the portions were generous. The atmosphere was friendly and relaxed, and it was great to see that they're dog-friendly as well. As someone once said, "I'll be back."
Bar staff friendly, but menu very poor...hardly any choice. Too many over-cooked oven chips. Side salad consisted of rocket and salad leaves; no other salad ingredients. Many people want ordinary menu i.e. with cottage pie; scampi; steak and kidney pie; chicken; fish dishes etc. plus a children's menu. No choice on this menu whatsoever for over 60's.

We popped into The Black Horse for a quick drink. My partner enjoyed a pint of a lighter Czech beer and I had an orange juice and lemonade. The service was friendly and quick. I can’t really say much more about the place as we sat outside and enjoyed the sunshine. A good stop off after a walk to the obelisk and white horse.
We took my father out for dinner to celebrate his birthday, and wish we hadn't bothered. The food was burnt and disgusting, they ran out of red wine (in a pub?! and then when we complained the manager was rude to us and threatened to call the police. Terrible attitude and terrible food. Save your money and go elsewhere.
This recently renovated pub on the main road to Calne is very pleasant. While it has not yet established a cozy atmosphere, it is neat and clean with friendly staff. Dogs are welcome. I did not eat there, but there is a chalk horse on the hillside and a monument nearby. It's a pleasant stop while traveling in this area.
We called in 'on spec ' as a group of four. Harriet was alone balancing the work for both the bar and the restaurant, and held the fort brilliantly till help arrived. Very welcoming, nothing was too much trouble and her friendly manner was very appealing.

Staff mostly civil rather than warm or friendly or welcoming, or even really polite, friendly staff, except one who smiled warmly.
Visited here for the first time with friends and can highly recommend.
