I've visited a few times so I knew it would be a great place to take my son who was over visiting from England. As usual we recieved a warm and friendly welcome. I had a 10oz Ribeye steak cooked to Perfection. I like mine rare but with the outer fat rendered. My son had Surf and turf, 8oz Sirlion topped with a generous portion of Scampii. The ladies had lighter meals of Seafood Chowder, Pasta and Ceasar salad. We had arranged for a Birthday cake to be bought out so skipped desserts but washed the cake down with Irish coffees. Okay. I should have listened to my instincts. The restaurant's decor is outdated, with cobwebs everywhere and a dark atmosphere. I ordered the pasta linguine and it was terrible - clearly made with a jar of cheap tomato sauce like Dolmio. It had no flavor and the prawns were rubbery. The tea cup I requested had lipstick stains all over it. When I asked about dessert, the waitress listed the options but then came back 10 minutes later to say they were all out, at only 1pm on a Tuesday. Honestly, save yourself the trouble and avoid this place. It desperately needs an update, a thorough cleaning, and a new chef.
It is many years since I last visited The Brass Monkey and by the look of it it is that many years since it saw a lick of paint. The place looks very run down and in great of some serious remedial work and I 'm afraid candles stuck in whiskey bottle is far from romantic. The food was reasonable for the price paid and most of the staff were attentive, however one or two of them could do with a little more training. All in all I would just about grant a low Average three star mark but unless there is a major tidy it would be difficult to even aware a Poor two.
I am amazed by this restaurant. At first glance, it may need a fresh coat of paint, but once inside, it feels cozy and welcoming. We ordered the ribs and chicken wings, and the portions were large and delicious. Later, one of the staff members asked if I wanted to see their gin collection. I followed and was blown away by the three stories of amazing choices. I highly recommend this place and will definitely return. Photos really don't do it justice.

I have dined at this restaurant for three days in the past week and all I can say is it was wonderful. The staff are so helpful, the food is delicious, and the prices are extremely reasonable. On our first visit, we had fajitas, followed by sizzling chicken on the second visit, and a carvery for my sister today, while I opted for the salmon dish. Every meal was wonderful. Thank you to all the staff.

I would not refurbish place. Food is bland, no flavour whatsoever. My husband has steak and I had fajita and we might aswell ate porridge. Place seems abit scruffy too
One of the best places to get food in Newry. So cozy to sit next to the fire with fresh hot food and a few drinks.And the crispy onions are to DIE for! 10/10

Food is fantastic, I enjoyed a Sunday carved which was excellent value. Warm, friendly setting with pleasant, attentive staff. I can’t recommend enough.
Good food and service .called in on the way back from holiday was not dissapointed the young guy serving was great very friendly.
