We'd not been to the Bungalow in many years, but, had been hearing such great reports about the recent refurbishment, so decided to venture in for a special family occasion. I'd booked a large table away from the busier dining-area, explaining to the Restaurant Manager that we'd have four energetic grandsons with us. On arrival, we found some games & activities had been placed on the table for the boys. And, the older boys did have their iPads with them to keep them entertained, if necessary. There on a Sunday evening, few drinks, my friends had steaks, no problem. 35 minutes later still no chicken !!?? Asked a staff member, she said she would go ask, miraculously turns up 5 minutes later, big serve with extra sauce by way of an apology I guess.. My 3 friends have long finished.... First bite sauce was hot, chicken cold, in fact frozen on the inside..... salad hot. 99% sure someone noticed it there and threw in the microwave...I don't even re-heat chicken at home. Fair credit manager gave me my money back, now near 9, left and went back to town. No ones kitchen still open. female staff member seemed to think it was my fault. NEVER darkened their door again. Was truely amazed by the fantastic slow cooked pork, truffle mushroom risotto....WOW. This is the best Italian food I have had in Cairns. Also a very very large mans meal size. The other food ordered by friends was also commented on a being great, good, fantastic.However, what lets this place down is that most of the staff do not know about or care about service. With the exception of the lovely Kate. There were 14 of us ladies with money to burn.....The barman was sour faced and really did I not care a dam.
Had heard it has had a revamp and the decor is really quirky- quite unlike anything else I've seen in Cairns. Kind of seems like it should be out of place in suburbia but somehow it works. Service was efficient, and the menu selection was pretty good as well, reasonably priced. The crumbed fish was really dry, which is the only negative thing I have to say. We'll go back in the future- a couple big groups who were dining at the same time lends me to think it would be nice for a birthday or baby shower etc.

Nice revamped venue with fresh clean look.Lunch Menu extensive with dishes for all taste buds.The staff are friendly, efficient and professional, definitely the best asset of this venue.My only concern was the doors to the function room were open and the noise from this room overflowed to the restaurant and made it difficult to discuss business .
A great pub to have lunch or dinner, and a cold beverage. You can also try your luck with the betting facilities on premises.Very friendly staff and had a great local crowd on the night of visiting. The restaurant was clean and airy and the sports bar has live music on Friday nights.Food was excellent and beer was cold.
You would not know from the outside but this hotel has fantastic Italian Food. We just happened along for lunch as was very surprised. The decor is great and so is the food. They do offer your standard pub food but much better then the average pub. The risotto was outstanding. Look forward to our next visit

Went here to dine with a group of others. Nice clean and recently revamped place with pleasant surroundings. No complaints with the food or service. Large portions. Prices reasonable.
