I've been to Cosy Club in Exeter many times, and it is a bit hit-or-miss. Sometimes it's great, other times not so, and once they had run out of vegan mains which was very disappointing, especially as I had booked a table for my boyfriend's birthday meal! The vegan menu changes occasionally, but generally offers good options. There is much more choice if you go between 9am and 6pm, so I would advise visiting for breakfast, brunch, lunch or early dinner. The tapas options are really nice, as is the vegan panini, but unfortunately there is only one dessert option which is a sorbet. Staff are very friendly, and the building is interesting because it used to be a hospital; it feels really grand...
I arrived at the restaurant on a Tuesday night, just a week before Christmas, without a reservation. It can be risky under those circumstances, but despite the crowd, we were welcomed without any issues. I appreciated that they asked about dietary preferences and allergies, allowing us to receive the appropriate menu without needing to search for vegetarian or vegan options. I ordered the turmeric cauliflower, roasted vegetables with harissa, garlic mushrooms, and, of course, chips! The dishes were creative, delicious, and fresh. The service from Charlie and her team was excellent, the food was fantastic, and the prices were reasonable. What's not to love?
We had a great Friday evening dinner for four, with two of us being vegans. The staff were incredibly attentive and helpful, and the atmosphere, despite the animal heads on the walls, was pleasant. We enjoyed our meal from the vegan menu, and although there was only one dessert option, we loved the chocolate orange tart. Overall, it was a very enjoyable evening.
