We stayed in Harwich for a week this year and visited here twice. When you walk in you are always greeted well, everybody behind the counter wants to say hello, they are very friendly there. We ordered 2 chips, buttered roll, and a quarter pounder with cheese, it was ready in about 5 minutes, very quick. It cost about a tenner, very reasonable. Cash only but there is a cash machine 2 minutes away at TSB. There was -so many- chips, the portions are huge, we could have had a chips to share. The chips were decent enough, a bit crispy on the outside, fluffy on the outside, very big and chunky chips. I recently went to this restaurant for lunch and had a disappointing experience. When I entered the chip shop, the man working there simply stared at me and did not greet me. I ordered haddock and chips and was initially pleased with the portion size. However, when I began eating, I was disappointed to find that the batter on the fish was extremely thick and raw, resembling dough. I had to peel it off in order to eat the fish, which unfortunately had no taste. I had to add vinegar and salt to make it edible. Additionally, the chips were overly oily, as if they had not been allowed to drain properly. Overall, the quality of the food was subpar and I left unsatisfied.
Husband went and bought one cod and chips and one plaice and chips. Plaice well if blindfolded could not say what i was eating tastless fish whether to start with it was frozen fish do not know, The cod husband said i have had better both were cooked to otrder but both fish were overcooked. Will not go there again. What the chips are cooked in do not know but was left with a taste in the mouth like a dripping taste. When i read good reviews and then go there and it is like stated it is obvious their friends have written the reviews either that or do not know what decent fish /chips taste like. The above came to exactly £20.money wasted.
I was recommended to try this fish and chip shop by the owner of Pacific 7 chip shop located nearby. During my stay in Dovercourt, I decided to give it a try. We ordered the fish cod and chips, and the fish was a generous size and very tasty. However, we did notice that the chips were a bit burnt, but that shouldn't deter you from trying this place. My son mentioned that he liked the fish here better than at Pacific 7, but I personally have a different opinion. Book a table now
Make sure you are hungry to get the best of this. The portion sizes are massive, and I mean massive. The large cod was literally over a foot long, my medium cod was what I'd call extra large anywhere else! Same goes with the chip portion sizes. A large between two would be more than generous. Fabulously fresh food all served up quickly with excellent customer service and a smile. We wish we lived nearer!!
Called in for a takeaway because we were pushed for time and bought three portions of fish and chips, which we took to the seafront and ate in the car. All agreed that it was some of the best fish and chips we'd had in a long time. Good size servings, non greasy food and nicely presented by friendly staff. .
Best fish and chips in Harwich. Portions are great, tasty fish, priced well, fresh cooking oil used, (I hate dark dirty chips) and quick friendly service. Fish house serve you quick with their cooked food Unlike most chippys in Harwich! If I wanted to wait 30 mins I'd cook it my self. Definitely #1 for us
By far, the best in the area. Great friendly staff. Food is cooked well . No pre cooked/ double dipped chips here. Freshly cooked. Spicy wings are hot. Very hot. Fish is cooked spot on. Can not recommend them enough. Great service. Even when I have had food delivered, arrived quickly. Book a table now
The staff at this restaurant were very kind and welcoming. I felt right at home during my visit. The food was freshly prepared and delicious. I will definitely stop by again when I am in the area.
