The newly built Gatelodge cafe sits just inside the main entrance of Ards Hospital, on the left. a brand new enterprise staffed predominantly by people with learning disability. I had an hour to kill between appointments and thought I'd go there for a light lunch. It was my first visit and I was looking forward to seeing what was on offer. On reaching the main entrance, as a wheelchair user I was disappointed that the door didn't open by means of a button press outside, I had to lean forward to attempt to push it open but it was not possible. Luckily there was a young lady at the front desk who rushed forward to help. So in I went to the seating area, very bright and airy, seating for perhap...

simply make a delicious freshly baked mars bar scone and cup tee. I sat alone and two coworkers joe and jordan came by to check everything with my food was in order and a conversation to begin, it was nice to feel so welcome and all the coworkers are so pleasant and friendly. daisy also talked to my young man who was so sweet. the caffe provides a great work that offers training and employment opportunities for individuals of all skills. my favorite café in ards!

I bought two sausage rolls to take home after reading a positive review in the local newspaper. I heated them up for lunch and found that they had a surprisingly large amount of a substance similar to spam inside, which the local birds seemed to enjoy. The pastry was not great either. I did enjoy the baked beans I served with it, but overall I felt that they were overpriced, costing twice as much as I had anticipated.

The food was terrible, possibly the worst place I have ever been to. The staff were nice, but the hot food should never have been allowed to be served in the way it was. I don't understand how people can say they like this cafe, I was very disappointed. I do not recommend it. Book a table now

The restaurant has a cozy ambiance, delicious food, and friendly and attentive staff. It appears to be a popular spot for meetings with friends. I will definitely be visiting again.
