Went here with a group of about 10, and we had to carry 2 prams up the stairs because there was no working lift. I planned to get the pork belly as that was the Sunday special, only to be told that they had sold out (this was at 7pm), so I ordered the fish and chips instead. The meals for the table all appeared randomly, with about half an hour between the first person getting their meal and the last person getting theirs. I thought that being at Hillarys, seafood would be a reasonably safe bet. I was wrong. The fish was absolutely flavourless, and the chips tasted like they had been there a little too long. Definitely would not go again.
Came here for the Monday special, $19 seafood platter for 1. Generous portion with grilled fish, fried squid, chilli mussels, two raw oysters, prawn cocktail and chips. Taste wise..... meh. The prawn cocktail was my least favourite component. Sauce was watery and tasteless. Everything else was alright. You order at the bar and seat yourself. Nice casual vibe to it with a good range of tap beers.
I wanted to love it here!! But: No lift for prams. No straps on their baby chairs. Dead quiet on a bustling public holiday. My meal was brought out 10 minutes after the first dish so people had finished theirs before I started. Burger very average. Sister not offered cracker pepper for her pasta which looked like it was begging for it! Party of 5 left disappointed.
First impressions walking in was impressed - nice asthetics. However once seated I found the accoustics in this place made it hard to have a conversation and the restaurant was not even full the night we went - so would hate to be there on a capacity night. Food was OK - nothing to rave about. Wouldn't rush back.
