Visited with family as they had visited previously and recommended it.However, they clearly do not have enough staff. We waited at least 20 minutes after being seated to have our order taken. The food then took forever, they didn’t come and take our plates for a long time after finishing. We weren’t asked if we wanted desserts, the kids had free desserts included and these didn’t turn up. In the end we just found someone and asked for the bill rather than having to chase staff.Don’t get me wrong, the staff were very friendly, however, they were understaffed which was clear and they couldn’t cope with the number of tables. Firstly it's probably a bit harsh of me to give it 3 not 4 stars but it's in that pretty good, not very good category. The found is good pub grub , with a theme of large portions, especially meat. It's probably too much on a plate and leaves you feeling uncomfortably full ,even when you order what you think will be a fairly modest sized meal. Steaks seem to come out cooked to customer preference and mine was perfectly medium rare as requested.And for the amount of food you get a definitely value for money. If you like very large plates if food , or fancy yourself as man v food , this place is for you. Reasonable pub grub at reasonable prices.
I booked a table to visit this restaurant after my holiday in Spain. It was very busy, but despite being short-staffed, the service was quick and efficient. The staff explained the reason for the delay, and I had no problem with it. From the lady behind the bar to the young man who organized my table and the young lady who served me, everyone was excellent. This place is a gem, and I wish I lived closer. The meals, a sirloin steak and gammon, were outstanding. Thank you to all the staff for a job well done.
This place is a must to visit in the area and cannot recommend it enough. It’s well off the beaten track round the back of Cardiff Airport and a booking is a must as it gets booked up very quick. We visited a lunch time and an evening and everything was spot on. The food was absolutely amazing and the staff are totally friendly. The mixed grill and mixed grill burger are truly out of this world

4th time eating here, i had cod and chips, best fish i have ever eaten, batter so crispy and fish so good, chips were amazing and sue behind the bar was amazing x defo be back but will book, as it gets really busy
We ordered the beef Sunday lunch and found that the quality of not only the food, atmosphere and the friendliness of the staff was excellent. We would certainly recommend the Highwayman is worth a visit.
Great place, the food was even better, highly recommend this place to anyone, will not be disappointed, definitely be going back more than once!

Went in for a late lunch. Staff really pleasant and helpful. Fish and chips was excellent and good portions.
Excellent sized portions . Maybe too much for average sized beings . The belly buster at £34 is immense
