Lovely old house, recently renovated and nicely done. Great location in the heart of Port Ellen and suited for many of the wonderful things to do and see in Islay. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. The restaurant is pleasant and the food was good. Breakfasts were great. The bar was lovely and well stocked with some amazing whisky. Convenient to the ferry at port Ellen, and easy access to the walking trail up to Laphroig, Lagavulin and Ardbeg distilleries which is a beautiful stroll, or ride on e-bikes from Islay E wheels who are located just around the block. The restaurant offers a fantastic variety of whiskey, typical of Islay, along with excellent food. The seafood was incredibly fresh, and the staff were friendly and welcoming. After 5 days, we were on first-name terms and sharing jokes with them. The hotel has been tastefully renovated with sustainability in mind, including ground-source heating, LED lighting, and waste segregation. The only downside was the lack of a car charger, but there is one at the ferry pier, which was undergoing maintenance during our visit. Great job, guys!
Ordered the 50 day matured Ribeye Streak medium rare and got a cremated lump of stewing steak. Asked the staff to return it to the kitchen and was told that the chef recons medium rare is an opinion and his opinion was correct and mine was wrong. Got an apology from the staff and the kids meals taken off the price but I won’t be back.
We popped in on the off-chance of getting a table. The lady at reception was very accommodating, helpful and took time to explain speak to you. We were seated in the bar, for food. The food was fantastic, very well presented and the staff were friendly and good hosts. Another establishment with a warm welcoming atmosphere, thank you!

We stayed here for 4 nights and enjoyed breakfast and dinner several times. Excellent local food and kind service. The room was great and this was a wonderful place to stay to see the many whisky distilleries. Close to walking trails and a wonderful little beach in Port Ellen across the street from the hotel. We will be back.
Do not give these people your money, I took my family there for what I thought would be a beautiful meal. Ordered the steak medium rare, got some over cooked monster meat. Kitchen tried to say that medium rare is an opinion and I was wrong. Never been treated like it in my life, go anywhere but here.
As they don t accept reservations anymore, your only chance to get a table is come latest at 6 get to the bar until the kichen opens and get your table then. Come later and nothing is available anymore... we tried 3 times no dinner there... luckily there are other (excellent) options in Port Ellen!
I spent about an hour and three quarters at the restaurant. The food was hot and reasonably priced. I left a tip for the young waitresses, who seemed surprised by it. Does no one tip for good service anymore? I would definitely recommend the Islay Hotel if you are in the area.

Great Service, Friendly and Quick. Great Food, Loved the Ardbeg infused dish on the starter of chicken wings and the main was the best burger i’ve had in a long time. great menu to accommodate a friend who is pescatarian, so everyone was happy.
