What a lovely friendly place. We passed by the day before and thought “how does that place survive all the way out here”. The next day we decided to venture back and try out for lunch first checking dogs were allowed. We set off thinking we would be the only customers. How wrong could we have been. The car park was busy and on entering the pub was buzzing with customers. We had a table by the bar with our two dogs. Deciding on having a sandwich for main, we thought it ok to have a starter. Must admit that despite being regular customers over the years this was our first visit since Covid. Really pleased to see the interior exactly the same as always, cosy, unique and dog friendly. But what’s happened to the menu? I was really looking forward to having our favourite Old Peculiar Casserole or steak and mushroom pie but they were missing from the menu along with the legendary T bone steak. No chalk board specials either. We were gutted. Chose steak and ale pie. The portion was enormous but the steak didn’t melt in the mouth like the casserole and although the pastry was very good I much preferred the old Blakey flaky pastry. Another wonderful stay at the Lion. Friendly and efficient staff, a welcome roaring fire after walking the 12 mile Rosedale loop, pints of Old Rosie and enormous portions of delicious food. We both had deep fried Brie, then a huge piece of duck in orange sauce and a proper steak and ale pie (large chunks of steak and short crust pastry top and bottom not a puff pastry lid as you often get). I barely managed the Jam Roly Poly for dessert which was delicious. Comfortable room and a large full English breakfast completed a great stay.
We drove up the car park was full, overflow car park was starting to fear the worst. It was very busy, but we managed to find a table, I was told the wait for food was 30 minutes, considering how busy it was I thought that was really good, we ordered 2 pork roasts the food was with us within 15 minutes at the most. The food was excellent! A big pub that swallowed up load of people with ease, great service, friendly customers, dog friendly in a really nice old building.

We've been to blakey ridge many times but this time was for a special birthday. Nestled in the moors, surrounded by countryside! Food was absolutely amazing. My fillet steak was 8 10oz which was definitely over 10oz! The Restaurant had specials on which were also delightful! The ambience was calm and tranquil the perfect atmosphere was this gem of a pub!
Visited on bank holiday Monday, and we always wonder why we leave it so long between visits. Good quality food, excellent menu. Both children loved their meals, great atmosphere inside of the pub, staff excellent, overall we had a lovely lunch!
We parked up at The Lion and headed out on a hike where the views were excellent. We then headed for food at The Lion and were very impressed with our meals. Would highly recommend for anyone wanting a walk and pub food

Friendly staff. Great foo served all day. Epic portions! Fantastic views. Dog friendly with 2 x real fires. Not sure if I’ve got any room left for dessert!
