When I booked a table for our Christmas meal in October I was told the Christmas menu had not yet been decided but there would be one. I heard nothing until the week before when someone from the pub rang to confirm our booking. They said that there would be no Christmas menu because we had not pre-ordered or paid a deposit but there would be options like duck a l’orange and rack of lamb. When we arrived the menu consisted of bought in Pie-Minster pies, hunters chicken and scampi and their homemade Pirate pies, which were supposed to be a take on the old Desperate Dan pies of old. 3 ordered the Pie-minster pies, which were nice. 2 of us ordered the Pirate pies which were supposed to be a meat...
Lovely little pub. We turned up without a reservation (silly us) barman was really friendly and found us a table. Choice between pie menu or main menu, both looked great. We chose 2 different pies. Choice of sides. Meals were really delicious. Couldn’t fault them. When we came to pay he said that it was 2 for 1 on pies, this wasn’t advertised and so was a lovely surprise. Would definitely visit again.
This pub is a little off the beaten track but well worth the effort. My friend and I were lucky to get a table before Christmas without a reservation. The real ale was decent, and my pirate pie was humongous — and very tasty! Lovely morsels of beef, veg and gravy left me feeling stuffed. My friend had one of the smaller pies which he enjoyed as well. Good job.
Came in as we were passing, lovely atmosphere, pleasant staff, and so much history here! Food was phenomenal, arrived quickly and piping hot, the ‘Angry Pirate’ pie was easily enough for 2 people and the kids were over the Moo(n) with their pies! Props to the team, cannot recommend this place enough, will be a regular spot for us for sure!

Were invited by friends to visit and sample this local Gem. Warmly welcomed by 2 wonderful girls who could not do enough to make our visit enjoyable. Wonderful food, drink and hospitality. I even got a Shamrock on my Guinness!!! Great night and Highly recommend
Last minute decision for tea and didn’t regret it! Beautiful little pub and the food is amazing!! If you like a perfectly cooked steak then this won’t disappoint and the mixed grill to share absolutely perfect
Great meal on 241 pie night, this included a choice of two different vegan pies, which was awesome. Friendly professional bar staff, great to see this great little pub in such good hands.
lovely cosy atmosphere good selection of beers and spirits, friendly staff and food is incredible!! great portions and very fair prices, will definitely come again!
