Great Christmas dinner, turkey and especially ham were beautiful and of very good quality. The stewed beef (daube) was class also. We had salted chilli chicken and garlic mushrooms to start which were lovely. The thatch is very homely inside and has a nice atmosphere. The reason I’d give it 4 and not a 5 is the cocktails were just OK (espresso martini and bramble) and the service wasn’t great at all. Don’t get me wrong lots of young people walking around and asking you if you need anything, but I think it might be better if they assigned your waiter/waitress to your table for the duration of the meal. The restaurant refused to accept a meal voucher that was given to me for my birthday because it had expired just over three months ago. The vouchers are only valid for six months, but the expiration date is printed in very small writing which was difficult for me to read as an elderly person. When I questioned their strict policy, their attitude was very disappointing. They had no problem keeping the money I had paid for the voucher. It is frustrating to see restaurants struggling to survive in the current climate, yet they are willing to take money without providing any service. Not a great experience.
The main dishes we received were satisfactory, but the service was severely lacking. We had to remind the waitstaff about our drinks after waiting for an extra 10 minutes, and the table was slow to be cleared. The dessert we received was not what we ordered, so we left it untouched. It took nearly 20 minutes for a staff member to finally come over to us, as they appeared to be distracted in other directions. However, when they did approach us, they were friendly. Overall, I am disappointed because our previous family meal at this restaurant was much better.
I want to thank the restaurant for an amazing weekend, I had a fantastic time. The food was great, couldn't find any faults with it, and the staff were friendly and accommodating. I brought a family member with me on Saturday evening and she was impressed as well. She even mentioned bringing her sister next time. Excellent job to everyone, I give it a 10 out of 10! The wife was working, so I decided to go out with the children for something to eat. I had The Thatch Sandwich . Biggest sandwich I ever saw. Delicious too. Loads of sides. 4 clean plates were left for the waitresses. Very enjoyable.
