Stopped in here off the cuff on a Saturday after walking across Dartmoor in the afternoon. Me and friend both had a pie off the specials board (which is not something I would normally go for) and it was the best pie I have ever eaten the pastry was shortcrust and there was so much meat in the pie it was full to the brim. Definitely worth every penny we paid! Desert of chocolate cake was also very yummy. The staff were lovely especially one lady called Penny. Although this pub is a bit out the way for me I will definitely be going back again.

Visit to the birthplace of Jail ale within walking distance of Dartmoor visitor centre, Jail and brewery. Afternoon visit. Good choice of Pub grub at competitive prices with varied choice of Ales lagers and spirits. Staff pleasant, attentive and welcoming. Décor modern, clean and inviting. Food Specials available daily recommend the Steak and Ale pie. Beer garden at rear. Helpful and scenic Bus service no 98 over the moors from Tavistock. First ever visit would go back again. Well recommended

After a lovely walk on the moors and a visit to the Dartmoor prison museum you get to the lovely village of Princetown and this lovely village pub. It was a lovely sunny and warm Sunday and indoors well a Halloween paradise so well thought out. We opted for 2 Sunday lunches which was delicious and then went to sit outside enjoying more sun in the Garden. We will be back to sample more delights. Great atmosphere in the pub and staff very friendly. Well done.

Friendly welcome. Staff really helpful. Pub is really nice inside, recently refurbished but retains its old character. Plenty of seating. Toilets really clean. The steak and ale pie we had was absolutely delicious and we were so tempted by their deserts on the menu but didn’t have the room. This is my favourite go to eating pub it’s just a shame I live nearly an hour away! Great place for lunch after a walk on beautiful Dartmoor.
