we visited on 23rd april (st georges day) for lunch with my brother and his wife, he had suggested the place when he lived down the street and visited numerous. they have to turn off the a36 direction salisbury and it has been located next to the remains of the old road. we took up a position in the garden while we waited for the venues to open and on 12pm we were warmly welcomed and offered every seat we want, so my brother chose the winter garden, the beautiful view of the white bird lake. we had drink orders (no coke zero or pepsi max! and then we gave out orders. as always, dear readers, I went with scampi and chips, I was a little surprised not to see a steak-based meal, be it bark meat...

This is an idyllic, quirky little pub with great views, great food and a wonderfully welcoming host. We were stuck in the traffic jam on the A303 coming back from Glastonbury, and decided to turn off and find somewhere to eat .. after two abortive stops, we called the Rainbow and he checked how many of us there were and said he could accomodate us. Which ended up being extremely kind of him, since they were short staffed that day. It is very much a family run place, but that's much of its charm we couldn't think of a nicer spot to just relax and get away from the traffic surrounded by flowers, shrubs and a gorgeous lawn being mowed by the cutest little robot mower that fascinated the few dog...
What an amazing find, we were on our way back to Bristol from Brighton and needed a break when we saw the sign for The Rainbow on the Lake, it sounded lovely and it was. We ended up staying for lunch and it was delicious, great value for money, very filling, we didn’t eat again for the rest of the day. The owners were exceptionally friendly and welcoming, it was the most pleasant part of our journey, could have stayed all day with those lovely views of the swans on the lake, Would definitely visit again.
I went to this restaurant with my daughter for Sunday lunch and it was a truly terrible experience. We ordered the mixed meat roast and it was disappointing. The beef was tough and chewy, the pork was bland, and the chicken was dry. The gravy was watery, and the potatoes and parsnips were overcooked and hard. The pub itself was in poor condition, with cobwebs and dust hanging from the aging decorations. I will not be returning and I recommend avoiding this place. Book a table now
We sat in the their beautiful garden overlooking fields and the lakes. We ordered sandwiches for lunch and were most delighted to get well filled doorstop sandwiches which came with a lovely mixed salad with berries in it. It was so delicious and such good value for money. This pub should be promoting its lovely food far more than it does. Well worth a visit.
Arrive hungry, leave extremely full and happy! Great food and friendly service, will definitely visit again if in the area. The ploughmans was huge, with a wonderful homemade bread, delicious coleslaw and potato salad. Prawn salad was delicious especially with the unexpected fruit (strawberry, blueberry, blackberries and pomegranate) Very reasonable prices!
Superb summer location, shady umbrella, tables with fabulous view, calm and beautiful. Space for children and families, including the dogs. Pub food , very well presented and delicious. Good quality produce, vegetarian options, good bread, luscious salads, good ales on tap. Reasonably priced. Excellent service Recommend
We stopped off on our travels for some dinner. They were close to shutting but accommodated us. For was nice for pub food and the owners were lovely. Yes it’s dated but owners were hard working to keep there business going after covid days. Book a table now
This restaurant is absolutely charming! The service was fantastic, and the food was delicious. Both of our families, along with our dog, felt incredibly welcomed. Thank you for a fantastic lunch!
