We were really looking forward to tasting the Thai which they have been hosting 2 evening a month for the past couple of months, but we were all extremely disappointed. The mixed starter for 2 to share at £12.95 was 2 vegetable spring rolls, 3 slim chicken skewers and 3 tiny pork balls which were as small as a marble, this was to share! Were we really expected to cut up half a chicken skewer and cut half a marble of pork??!! The service was disgraceful we were told the moment we sat down (our table was booked at 7.30pm) we must order as the kitchen shuts at 8pm. The waitress came to our table with 7 side plates with 7 forks and knives and landed it on the table and expected us to dish it out...

I have been a regular at this restaurant for years! My family and I have always enjoyed going there in the evenings for drinks and a meal outside in the lovely surroundings. However, despite the friendly welcome sign outside and the posted food service times, on three separate occasions we have been rudely informed that they do not take walk-in food orders at 6 pm because they have reservations. We were simply looking for a quick bite to eat with drinks in the garden and even that seemed to be too much trouble. It's unfortunate that Fernhurst has lost what was once an excellent local village pub. Aside from the bar staff who have to deliver this disappointing news and the fact that the reser...

A very disappointing Sunday lunch today. I ordered cold salmon, prawn beetroot salad, my colleague had a Thai vegetable curry. For £17 my salmon was raw, inedible, the prawns measly, no beetroot to be seen. When I asked for french dressing I was told there was none! The Thai dish was passable but naan bread like cardboard . The tables patio area outside around fireplace was dirty, cigarette butts cobwebs everywhere. We have been coming here for the last 30 years on and off. This time we did not feel at all welcome. Such a pity as this used to be a landmark pub. Shall not return.

Booked this pub as the mid- way point for a family gathering, each travelling for an hour. Arrived on time and ordered promptly, each having a main course. We’re told there may be a bit of a wait as the kitchen was busy. This was a complete understatement as our meals eventually came, as several promptings, AN HOUR AND THREE QUARTERS LATER! By that time the place was deserted. We were offered no reduction in the bill, or other compensation but we did not make a fuss, in order not to embarrass the elderly lady in our group Book a table now

If you are looking for a great meal this is for you! Wide choice of delicious starters, mains and deserts. Even including the home made favourites such as linguine Bolognese, shepherds pie, macaroni cheese etc . The Red Lion offers a warm and friendly atmosphere, lovely, caring staff, comfortable warm and welcoming surroundings...... Sunday Roasts, fish and chips, burgers..... So much choice at a reasonable cost. Highly recommended!!!!!!

A group of 12 of us had our Ladies Christmas celebration meal last night here. It was faultless the little room we had the table nicely presented with excellent crackers) was perfect, the food was absolutely delicious, we were welcomed by such a friendly team. Nothing was too much trouble. Those of us who found we struggled with large portions were given a doggie bag without any fuss. A really jolly experience. Highly recommended.

Came to visit this lovely gem In the heart of fernhurst. Was greeted by a rude man and lady who appeared to be the landlord . Not a nice atmosphere at all . My husband asked if they were serving food and they said no fully booked there was no vibe to this bar . Broken lights and is completely run down such a shame as it 's the only pub in the village. Will Not be returning!!!

I came to the red lion where I have visited a few times to meet my friend for some drinks. However was very disappointed as seems as was met by a very rude barman I was later informed that this gentleman was in charge whilst the usual owners were on holiday. Very disappointed to see this is how they leave their pub in charge Book a table now

I highly recommend The Red Lion in Fernhurst for its lovely and relaxing atmosphere. The service is great, with friendly and efficient staff. The Caesar Salads are delicious and there is a good variety on the menu.
