We booked a table for 5 of us for the November afternoon tea. We arrived and were seated after getting drinks. They told us it was a different menu to the one we ordered which was a little upsetting. It took nearly an hour for the food to be served to us with no one explaining until 5 minutes before that it was just being plated. When we were given the food it was all flat cold but we ate it as we were hungry and had been waiting for an hour to be served. The sweet food was mediocre and looked and tasted like shop bought food. No one came to ask us how it was and we weren't offered a cup of tea or any other drinks. I have been I fan of the Fox which has recently become Riverside Fox and so I booked the November picnic bench for my and my brother in laws birthday. 5 family members had not been before and so I was looking forward to introducing them. However we arrived to a locked restaurant. No sign of life. No notice on the door and no attempt to contact me despite having my mobile and email address. What has shocked me most is the lies told on facebook. When myself and others left polite comments regarding the problems today rather than apologising, the Riverside Fox states on Facebook they did ring and leave messages but then deleted our comments re issues and then blocked us from responding. We booked an afternoon tea for 2 with the Autumn Bench menu. For £19.95 each, we expected a high standard of food, even though we were getting small versions of each item. We were dissapointed that when the food arrived, it was barely warm. The speed at which it came compared to other customers made us assume it was pre-prepared. The chicken burgers were dry and cold, the fish and chips also cold with more batter and fat than fish. The soup was cold when it arrived, which made it unbearable to drink. Unfortunately, our visit to this restaurant today was extremely disappointing. It appeared that the establishment is on the verge of closing down. The Christmas picnic bench we ordered was of poor quality, with cold and minuscule portions, and we had to wait for a long time. The atmosphere inside was chilly and unwelcoming. Furthermore, they did not accept card payments, only cash, and even directed us to an ATM across the street. The staff were impolite and even accused us of trying to get free food. Eventually, we had to transfer money to their account (not the full amount). This situation left us feeling like the authorities should investigate this place. What was supposed to be a pleasan... Benches looked fab. I wanted the steak option but when arrived was told no steaks and we was the 1st customers. Thet did double up on items on the bench as i did not like some of them. No other menu option was mentioned although after i was home i remember a reply from a query had mentioned tapas. Had to ask for our coffee/tea as never brought it. One of the chairs had bent metal on the seat beading. Luckily no one was hurt but it was sharp to touch. Mentioned it to staff so hopefully wont hurt someone else.
A really disappointing meal yesterday at The Riverside Fox. The Autumn Picnic Bench was greasy, luke warm and tasteless and the 3 tapas chosen were too spicy and tiny portions.
The staff were lovely and friendly, the food was really nice the only reason I haven't given 5 stars is because the scones were really dry and weren't very nice.

Dirty , cant pay by card , scruffy staff and smelt like an old dish cloth , avoid the place
