Booked for husbands birthday, we were sat on table right next to bar which meant we were disturbed every time a member of staff went past to serve at the bar….Noisy Locals were right next to our table, felt like we had an audience while eating food. Staff were also too busy socialising with the locals and not interested in looking after customers wanting food. We asked for a starter that actually came out with main meals, food was cold and had been standing around, we have visited on several occasions and have always enjoyed our meals… we definitely will not be returning! Disappointing!

I initially had a pint of ale that smelt off. Second was ok. I ordered a chicken Madras which you could choose with rice or chips or combination of both. I just don't know how the kitchen had arrived at this plate of food. It was watery and flavourless, swimming in watery liquid, lacking any seasoning. I can only imagine it had been frozen and then reheated. To be as kind as possible to the (chef? , perhaps buy some ready made kits at the supermarket, rice and diced meat and you couldn't go too far wrong.

Four of us visited on Father’s Day and had a roast dinner each from the Sunday menu. The food was really, really nice. The food was all fresh, hot and tasty (especially the cauliflower cheese! We all had puddings which were similarly awesome. Found the staff to be friendly and we didn’t have any trouble flagging someone down for more drinks/puddings etc. I’d definitely go again!

Staying at a nearby cottage and after a 3 hour drive to get here, we visited The Shakespeare Inn for a well-earned drink and food. 3 cask ales on offer. The food was of the highest quality, generous portions, and well priced. Staff were very polite and friendly, especially to our dog, Dexter. This is a must revisit location. Book a table now

Pub says 'dog friendly '. Inside we are told we can sit in bar area with dog. Food looked good so asked to book a table but before we could were told that we could only sit on table 1 with dog. Barman said we were misinformed. Could only use table 1 as other tables were for drinkers Dog friendly my arse !
