Food and beer were excellent, service attentive and friendly. No real issues at all. Used to go to the Squirrel for family lunches after walks in Penn Woods but hadn't been for a while. The refurbishment seems to be a relatively simple makeover rather than a huge upgrade, but it all works very well. The pub feels warm and welcoming, the food is more interesting than before and all in all it's a really good step forward. Food wise there were 5 of us and we had a reasonable selection from the menu pork belly bites, parsnip and sweet potato soup, crispy gnocchi, avocado and crab pot, butternut squash and sage ravioli for starters. All were excellent and were eaten in full (always a good sign)....

We were put in the back room by the toilets and the whole room smelt (could only assume it was the toilets, unless it was a damp issue). We had to pre order food as we were a large group. Ordered on Thursday, wanted the pork which they didn 't have surely they could have got some in? As it happens, I 'm kind of glad they didn 't. People that ordered pizzas had to watch everyone else eat first, as the pizza oven had not warmed up. Again, they knew since Thursday that we were coming! I had the prawn linguine. It looked like it had been sat on the side for a while as the pasta was all stuck together and dry. Pizzas eventually came and were very disappointing. My vegan friend had The Alotment no...

Visited on a Wednesday evening at 5.45. Warm welcome from members of staff. Only one fire burning and other end of bar very cold, rubbish and food debris on floor. We ordered food which was average,,chicken burger with chips, no side salad or coleslaw to enhance it. Used the ladies toilets and thats where everything went pear shaped. No lock on the cubicle door. Wash hand basin was disgustingly filthy. Nappy changing was literally two side tables pushed together. A disgrace for hygiene on so many levels. No mirror to check appearance. The gents was similarly grim by all accounts. This used to be a great family pub but I wouldn’t be taking my grandchildren due to totally grim toilet facilitie...

We went for a family meal on Saturday lunch. The wait staff were really friendly and helpful. The food was very good, happy to eat it again (except the ‘rare’ steak which was almost well done). But we arrived at 1, starters came 35 mins in and it was 1 he and 15 before we got our lunch. Incredibly slow also with desserts. We left 3:45! The place wasn’t full; they just done have enough staff I think. Book a table now

Excellant food. The chicken pie looks simple but it and the mash are full of flavours. Visited yesterday and went back today for more. Dog freindly.. Good garden seating, ideal for lunch or coffee after a walk in the woods.
