This is an unusual venue for a restaurant. It used to be a General Store. I made reservations based on reviews, and that it was a Saturday night. It was extremely busy when my wife and I arrived at 6:25 for our 6:30 p.m. reservation. We saw the host at the front and let her know we were here. There is virtually no place to stand while they get your table ready. Unfortunately, despite the assurances from the host, we didn't get seated until a half our past our reservation. The entire restaurant is open to the outside, so we were constantly harassed by flies. Our server, Justin, did a great job with what he had to work with. Our service here was excellent our waitress was very cordial and very attentive ,once we actually got a seat. This is a very small restaurant with limited seating. Even with a reservation we waited to be seated and people were coming in after us and getting seats which was disturbing. The food is good and I would recommend them but they need to get their act together. This was our second time eating at The Stave. By far the best fried chicken sandwich I've ever had. I added pimento cheese and bacon. We always like to sit at the bar for the entertainment aspect. I had the best bologna sandwich ever. Smoked and fried. I'm going to try my hand at smoking some myself. My wife had the catfish sandwich. It wasn't good at all. Stopped here for brunch on a Sunday to finish up our bourbon trail weekend. Make a reservation! The place is TINY on the inside with an enormous patio. Good was great. Directly in between Castle Key and Woodford so it makes the perfect mid-day pit stop for lunch.
Food was overpriced. Waitress seemed to be bothered. Location is good when near Woodford Reserve or Castle and Key but go for the food at Castle and Key instead. Food: 2 Service: 1 Atmosphere: 3
