We have known and loved the Tollgate for longer than I care to remember. We 've had some great meals there over the decades when meals were freshly prepared on site and beautifully presented but it has now let itself down badly by offering the identical menu of every other Greene King pub we 've been in, with exactly the same mediocre 'boil in the bag ' type of food. Following a period of being in absentia (partly de to being abroad) we returned to this establishment for a traditional Sunday lunch and were delighted to see that the high standards set by the current Manager (Martin) when he first took over the management last year have been maintained by him and his his Staff who are all very efficient, friendly and very helpful too. I myself have a chronic spinal problem which sometimes limits my capabilities but Marin himself went and got cushions for my chair which helped to alleviate my pain. My husband and I went into pub for drinks and meet friends we sat at table with friends only to see bar lad picking his spots on face behind bar in mirrors then he was bleeding didn't wash hands as he carried on working other people noticed also we were so disgusted I went and had a word with him asking him to wash his hands he just laughed at me so I went and had a word with manager Martin who told Alfie wash his hands if we hadn't noticed what he done picking spots he would of carried on serving food and drinks BE AWARE.SO Unhygenic would you people like served food and drinks by a spot picker.

Haven't been here for a long time so decided to book here for Sunday dinner at 6pm. Couldn't hear each other due to the loud disco.. Yes disco at 6pm on a Sunday when people are trying to have dinner!! The food was very average, my beef and ale pie was rock hard and virtually no meat. Service was OK. Won't be returning which is a shame as its local and used to be really good.
I had a wonderful experience from the moment I walked in! The food was delicious, the service was extremely friendly, and the prices were very reasonable. Special thanks to Josie at the bar and the waiter with ginger hair who served me (I'm sorry I forgot his name). I will definitely return to this restaurant when I'm in the area!
We Came to The Tollgate this afternoon for meal with friends. Table of 18 of us. Considering the pub was pretty busy we didn't have to wait too long for our meals. Had a delicious roast beef dinner. Great service. Will definitely be coming back for a roast again soon.
came in for dinner a few nights ago, was pretty busy however the service was amazing, greeted as i came in by a blonde woman behind the bar, food came out quickly and was a reasonable price! definitely would recommend.

Visited for the 1st time today for Sunday lunch in a group of 11 and will definitely be going back. Food was all really good and the hospitality was excellent.
