This accommodation seemed like a nice country retreat when we booked. The welcome just covered that, with staff involved seeming to be rathe preoccupied. The room was cold and one might say 'dank ' as if we were the first to set foot in there this season [and it was June] It was stated in the booking that one had to provide ones own bed linnen and towels, there were towels and one of the beds was made up. The beds were 'well used ', so could have been better. There is wifi, but it 's so intermittent and weak [in the room] that in fact there is no wifi. We arrived about 6.20pm on a Sunday evening. We ordered two pints of Wherry only to be told there wasn't any. Why the label on the pump wasn't turned round to indicate this I don't know. Instead, we settled for London Pride but were told by the barmaid/tenant/landlord that they would be closing at 7pm. At 6.45pm, one of my friends went to order another couple of pints only to be told she had finished serving. As he sat down, she poured another drink for one of her friends/locals at the bar. The music was so loud that one could hardly have a conversation, and it almost seemed there was a private party going on. We left and won't be going back. I have visited The White Horse on several occasions for lunch. The place is really friendly and down to earth. A traditional pub. The menu is simple with plenty of comforting dishes at reasonable prices. The food had been consistently excellent on every occasion fresh and beautifully cooked. Compliments to the chefs! The service is also just right and has always been with a smile. A pleasure to eat here. Thank you.
This is a traditional friendly pub. The pint of beer I had was clearly cared for and tasted superb. I'm avoiding saying what it was as I suspect all the beers are as good so it's a matter of preference. The staff where very helpful. I will go again. And again.....
