Now that the cafe has taken over the entire shop space (used to share with retail) there is loads of room and a nice, cruisy, somewhat Boho feel. With a range of kids toys, a kids table and a blackboard to keep the little ones entertained, it means you can enjoy your coffee and yummy raw treats without scoffing them down and high-tailing it out of there. The Wholesome Nest is a kid friendly venue and is super convenient for friends and I to visit after exercising at the nearby surf club. However, after visiting multiple times (5+ at least) both before and after the changes from shop and cafe to cafe only we have yet to visit when something hasn't been forgotten from one of our orders. We've reached the point where it's a joke to what will be forgotten. Coffee is ok, but the raw treats are pretty good for the cost and often change. If you're in a hurry or don't like kids this is not the venue for you. There are toys and a big blackboard for kids to play with and plenty of 'running' space amongst the couches.
Slightly disappointed. Arrived at 1.30pm on a Monday afternoon. It was very quiet and I ordered a smoothie. 15 minutes later despite no other orders being placed and only one person in the cafe I was still waiting for said smoothie. I also overheard the woman making it saying there wasn't any ice. Then when it finally got brought out to me she blamed it being warm and runny on the warm weather. If there was no ice and I was going to get a luke cold smoothie that takes 15 minutes I probably would have not ordered it.
I found The Wholesome Nest! And found it to my liking! Cappuccino first: a fine, flavoursome brew. Porridge: tastefully presented and going down well. There's a 'coming events' calendar, some circle-themed artwork and a fair few books, as well as a fair few tables, with more seating on the footpath. It's the latter feature which provides the final clue in locating this down-the-lane café. The fruit toast is as fruitful as my quest to home in on breakfast this morning. Enough eulogising! Quaint is probably a good word. The site is a retail shop, a cafe and a set of studios of alternative health providers. The cafe is behind the shop, down a lane. The music playing was West Coast USA from the late 1970s and there were quite a few children playing and writing on the blackboard inside. There was outside tables as well. I just had coffee, but the foccacie looked good. The Genovese coffee was too bitter to my taste and the tables were slow to be cleared.
I love coming to this relaxed bayside cafe with a Byron Bay vibe. The coffee is always great, they make great salads and the Mushroom & Gruyere pie is a favourite. The range of raw desserts are delicious, definitely try the raw Lamington.The cafe is a much better space now that the boutique in front has gone and they can use the whole space. The cafe backs onto Carrum beach near a great kids playground and the surf club.
This little hidden restaurant has to be one of the best places I have came across. The food is of a high standard as well as their organic coffees. The staffs attention to detail and their warm friendly service puts the icing on the cake.. I would recommend this place to everybody, vegetarian or not ..
What an amazing cafe in Carrum. Atmosphere is inviting and the food and drinks are amazing. A lovely place to visit always. Love the shop at the front also.
