Both agreed skinned fish was well battered with chips lightly cooked, but we were rather overwhelmed with the size of our chip servings . I have been a loyal customer of Thompson's fish and chips for years and have always enjoyed their food. Despite living far away, my family and I make the extra effort to dine here after a trip to the seaside. The staff are incredibly friendly and accommodating, always going above and beyond to ensure a pleasant dining experience. The fish and chips are delicious and served in generous portions. I recently had to switch to a gluten-free diet for health reasons and was relieved to find that the gluten-free options at Thompson's were just as tasty as their regular menu items. Having passed this restaurant for several years, decided to divert to eat lunch here. Car park very busy and confused so concerned that the restaurant would be too busy, but take away service taking up lots of parking space. Very quickly shown to our table...and shown the extensive menu. We were here for fish and chips, so we went for the regular haddock and chips. Very quick service of the most excellent fish I’ve had in years! The staff were terrific, working as a team, they were outstanding! Best team working I have ever seen!!! We shall return.
Walked in for a takeaway and ordered for our builders and ourselves, a large order of Haddock, Chips and Mushy Peas. They told me that it would be a short wait as it all had to be freshly cooked, no issue with this. Got it...back and discovered that the Haddock was Cod, there were bones in every fish, the Mushy Peas were cold-warm and I’m fairly certain I was overcharged. I would stress that this is not the norm, all our visits for eating in and taking away has been excellent, but this particular Saturday was a poor show.

My friends and family frequently dine at this restaurant and never have any complaints. However, when I do try a new place, I always check Google reviews for a more honest assessment of the business. Thompson's is doing a great job, especially in these challenging times with rising costs. They consistently serve top-quality food, and even if the prices are a bit higher, it won't deter me from visiting weekly. In my opinion, they are simply the best.
I visited my favourite fish and chips restaurant today. Found the price of all the menu had increased which seems to be the norm since covid. Unfortunately I found the fish to be of poor quality and the batter was not the usual. This was...very disappointing as I had taken a family member to whom I had raved about the quality of the food. He thought the fish no better than his local. Will not be returning due to cost and poor fish quality
The restaurant was disappointing. The prices were high, the chips were very greasy, and the fish was poor quality. The overall experience has gone downhill since our last visit. The only positive aspect was the friendly and attentive staff. It's a shame about the quality of the food.
Made our first ever visit to Thompson’s easier today, Fri the moment we walked In we were pleasantly welcomed. Staff very attentive! Ordered, food was exceptional Next time we are staying up here again, we will be sure to visit again (probably have a...smaller portion)

We always stop on our way to the coast as the fish and chips are fabulous. Really large portions and cooked fresh. The place is spotless and staff warm and welcoming. Highly recommended
