I regularly visit Toby Carvery and I have to commend the new deputy manager, Rob. He is friendly, helpful, and goes above and beyond to ensure that customers enjoy their experience at the Southend branch. Despite being fairly new, he demonstrates excellent people skills and takes the time to ensure that patrons are taken care of. During my visit, he also supervised the staff to ensure that everything was running smoothly. However, one change that I noticed is that customers can no longer split the bill, which caused inconvenience to the person I was dining with. It seems to be a new policy at Toby's, but the only way around it is to pay at the bar before or as you come in.
The Toby carvery Prince Ave, Southend, is a great place to go for a good carvery. One point In would make is that all the veggies seemed to be saturated in oil/butter and would be helpful if they were not as some people like myself cannot digest oils/butter easily due to surgery. The new manager ROB is charming and polite, great people skills and it was his first week. Don't change, Rob, You are a great asset. There was a problem with the printing of receipts/bills and one or two people waiting too long either to pay or receive a receipt. One customer was told that the bill could not be split into two separate bills.
The waitress Jo very accommodating and always with a smile. When I told her that I was not happy with the cut of meat (beef) she went to get me some turkey. The cut of meet had connective tissue very chewy. We are used to visiting Toby Carvery A bit everywhere that there is one but never experienced such a bad one in Southend. Apart from that was an experience never to forget as had excellent attention from Jo but the cut of meat has left a bitter taste in my throat.
I'm sorry but last night they were short of staff which ment food was so slow there was too much play between staff then work done and the heat was over wealming so uncomfortable it was we had our food which was lovely but we could not socialise because of the heating must of been on too high and no air circulation which I almost fainted so once we ate we left with no desert. I've been there many times that was not nice... I wanted to be honest

very nice busy and bustling place. Food good. Pleasant staff although rushed off their feet. The only thing I would like to draw attention to is the ladies toilets were dirty, some broken, no loo roll in some and others left much to be desired. maybe someone could be allocated to do an hourly/bi hourly check/replenishment of loo rolls etc during busy times
The server, a young lady, was incredibly accommodating and kind. The food was absolutely delicious. The only downside was that the tables were not properly cleared and the surroundings were messy, possibly due to understaffing. However, overall it was a delightful dining experience.
Good food and staff, however the Yorkshire puddings were uncovered and not behind screen. Member of the public was able to poke at them . This was mentioned and the staff changed them for fresh , so well done to them. Otherwise everything was fine
Great service, great food and friendly staff! A bit of a distance from the serving area, otherwise excellent! The Toby Roast is one of my favourite places to eat!

Food was like warm,vegetables dried out so we were not overly impressed and table service was nowhere near usual standard
