This is my second season visiting Top Of The Bay. I love the atmosphere and the stunning views, but unfortunately, the food and floor service can be inconsistent. For my son’s birthday, they even forgot the candle for the cake, which ruined the surprise since I had to ask for one. When I mentioned this to the owner, he seemed indifferent. On the bright side, the bar service is excellent—the bartender is attentive, skilled, and very friendly. The mussels are consistently good, as are the salads and soups. They also offer a wonderful and extensive wine list, so there’s always that, along with the beautiful view, to enjoy.
My husband and I have been dining at Top of the Bay for many years. In fact, we even met there on a semi-blind date 19 years ago. During our recent vacation in Cherry Grove, which was our first week-long getaway since the pandemic, we had the pleasure of dining at TOB four times. Each meal was even better than the one before. The food is exceptional, the service is outstanding—better than any restaurant on Long Island—and the bartender is so delightful that you'll want to come back night after night. Without a doubt, it is the best restaurant on Fire Island.

This past week, during our first week-long summer vacation post-pandemic in Cherry Grove, we were lucky enough to eat at Top of the Bay four times! Each visit surpassed the last. The food is exceptional, the service outshines any restaurant on mainland Long Island, and the bartender ensures you'll want to return night after night. Without a doubt, it’s the best dining spot on Fire Island.
Is this the best dining experience ever? No. Is it overpriced without justification? Absolutely. But I can't think of a better spot for a nice dinner in the Pines or Cherry Grove. I had the scallops, and they were excellent. Usually, places like this try to get away with cheap wine and jack up the prices, but I was pleasantly surprised by their quality wine selection. One thing though—the reservation system is a mess. It's an easy fix, so they should definitely address it.

The best place for a cocktail and sunset viewing. They have a nice, if short, happy hour (buy one get one half off) from 5-6pm and if you stick around longer, you'll catch that aforementioned sunset on the Great South Bay. Dinner usually requires a reservation but has the feeling of a slightly-more-upscale experience than your typical beach restaurant. Worth a visit if you've never gone before.
The view is absolutely stunning and the food is fantastic. However, our experience was marred by the waiter, who was tall, thin, with brown hair and a beard. He came across as hostile and sarcastic, showing little interest in our presence or in providing us with good service. It's unfortunate for the restaurant, as it detracted from an otherwise enjoyable visit.
The restaurant boasts a fantastic atmosphere and is an excellent option for upscale dining on Fire Island. We tried the rock shrimp, sea scallops, and roasted chicken, all of which were delicious. It's recommended to make reservations ahead of time.
The Braised Short Rib is outstanding. The service is excellent, and the views are breathtaking.
