I've visited Towngate Fisheries in Idle on several occasions, and I am reminded of why this place stands out each time. Opting for their haddock and chips with lashings of salt vinegar has repeatedly proven to be a delightful choice. The fish is always perfectly cooked. The chips complement the fish wonderfully, achieving that coveted balance of crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Their curry sauce and homemade mushy peas are not to be overlooked. A few coworkers and I decided to try out the fish and chips at a local shop today based on my recommendation, as I am a regular customer there. However, to my disappointment, the fish was small and lacked flavor, the chips were barely warm, and the tea cakes were flimsy and low quality. The curry sauce tasted like curry powder and the portions were very small. I felt embarrassed for recommending this place, especially since my coworkers were considering another nearby option. We definitely did not feel like we got our money's worth. Overall, the meals were quite disappointing.
Had two fish one chips and a curry sauce.fish was very small for price and was dry like it had been under the heater for too long. chips looked like it was all they had left and couldnt be bothered making fresh.curry sauce was lovely only they have reduced portion size.used to be best around but me and wife said we would not go back after today. Oh and i asked if they had any cakes to be told 15 mins and it was only 12.45.need to get back on track
Great food fish was cooked to perfection and chips were nice and fluffy made even better by been offered scraps on them, the lunchtime offer is excellent value for money staff were really friendly definitely will be going back
