This is a place I 've always driven by, but for no real reason, other than the look of the outside, which could be really cheesy and verging on kitsch. However, it was summer and other places were crowded at the beach so we headed inland. The restaurant is between Foz do Arelho and Caldas da Rainha, closer to Foz. It was a Saturday and it had posted leitao on Saturday and Sunday (Sabado Domingo). Now I know why it is always busy for Sunday lunch. Leitao is baby pig and it is only good if freshly cooked, which it was. Sometimes, portions in PT are too big; but here, one was just right per person. Had lunch here. We both decided to have Sardines from the daily menu, the menu quoted a 1/2 portion at €9 and a full portion at€12.50. Having lived in Portugal for many years we are quite used to sharing a full portion of,many dishes,between the both of us and therefore ordered accordingly. We were both amazed when a dish arrived with 6 Sardines on it. I questioned it, thinking that we had been served a 1/2 portion by mistake, sadly not the case. What a rip off!! It is only 2 weeks ago that my wife had Sardines in a restaurant in Sao Martinho do Porto being served 6 fish for €8.50. No wonder Tropicana didn’t have many clients when we were there. We had to call at one of the big supermarkets...
Don’t go here expecting big hellos and a red carpet welcome. The restaurant caters mainly for locals and is a no nonsense eatery. The food was excellent, with large portions at a very reasonable price. We had roasted duck and pork which were on the specials menu of the day. Both came with fries, tasty rice and local veggies. In total including a jug of local red wine for €1.85 our bill came to €22.00.
Me and my husband were treated like royalty when we visited this restaurant. The portions were enormous, and the quality incredible. I'll never forget the grilled fish! Totally recommend and would visit anytime again if I'm in the area. Book a table now
Great food and very reasonable too. Closes at 22h00 so we were happy to be able to have a nice meal that late. Surprisingly, more people came after us. Had a lovely pitcher of Vinho Branco de Pressão... Always a hit with any meal.
Me and my family had a great meal at this restaurant, the food was delicious and the price was exceptional. Service was very friendly and the staff always checked if we needed anything else. Would definitely return!
Espaço muito simpático, com terraços e jardim. Os colaboradores são muito simpáticos. A comida veio depressa, com boa qualidade e quantidades generosas. O preço é bastante acessível.
Stopped here for lunch and ordered two grilled soles, but left after 1 hour of waiting for the dish. By all means avoid this place. Book a table now
Pedimos 3 bitoque de vaca, a carne não era nada de especial, mesmo assim vou voltar para ver como é os petiscos.
