Wow. We were not expecting such a great value for money sushi joint that is quite upscale in the East Bay. The interior is somewhat modern yet showing a bit of cost-consciousness. It 's clean. It 's pleasant.Food is quite good in many ways. Nothing truly blows you away but everything is way above average. The sushi is quite fresh. The hwoe-dup-bap plentiful and generous. Tonkatsu is well done. A great place all around. But then there comes the reasonable price and makes you truly appreciate Ukai at a whole another level.Locals love it. The visitors love it. Will return when around.

I've been visiting this restaurant since it opened, and it's a fantastic family-owned Japanese place that focuses on fresh ingredients and innovative recipes. Some of my top picks include the Ukai Combo sashimi, Agadashi Tofu, Kaarage Chicken, Spicy Chicken, and the Ms. White roll, to name a few. The fish is always fresh, and the chicken is tender and well-seasoned. I really love Ukai!

We went for dinner and all of the food was good and well portioned except the edamame was cold and we are used to eating it grilled or steamed.We will for sure visit again but this time we will pass on the edamame.Good place with quality food and pleasant customer service.

Food here is pretty good and price is quite reasonable too. We enjoyed all the rolls and I must say the Madagascar roll is very unique and worth trying!!
