Château-Gontier does not offer a wide range of restaurants – yes, we discovered a few gems, but found a snack for the lunchtime presents us a bit of a challenge. After we walk around for a while, we settled in this restaurant and we were pleasantly surprised by the quality of what we had. Galettes are ideal for a delicious snack, buckwheat pancakes with fillings and our were called “Galettes Forestiere”. The filling was ham, cheese, mushrooms and an egg directly in the middle, cracked-in raw and as part of the process of cooking the whole thing. Since it was quite early evening and with two tired, hungry children in the tow, we were pleased to find this place open... even though we were the first guests of the night. Service was timely and efficient if not over-friendly – but that would have had something to do with the five-year march to the restaurant before the rest of us and immediately a glass goblet from a table (Cue view of the alarm of the face of the hostess! . The above children are causally picky, but both have pinched their special children's pizza. My own was also delicious, while the salads on both sides were abundant and tasty from me. All in all, a great find and also not too expensive.
Having walked the streets trying to find somewhere that was even open we stumbled across this little restaurant. It was only just opened so we sat inside and made our selection. I had a salad and my husband ordered a burger.our friends ordered a burger...and a fish burger. A small jug of red wine and a couple of beers. Our friends then ordered dessert , a banana split and a creme caramel type dish. The total bill was 66 euros so not expensive at a all. The lady who served us was attentive and helpful and the restaurant was clean although a little lacking in atmosphere.
We arrived in the city after 21:30, so of course most French restaurants do not want to serve you. Villa Roma was open and happy to serve us for dinner. The pizza was good, the service was friendly and fast; it was just everything we wanted. I'd probably go back.
