This is a quintessential old country pub full of old artefacts and history dating back to the 1600’s. On a Wednesday evening eleven of us ladies went for a ‘hen party’ meal and requested the separate room (snug) which is just off the main eating area. It was just the right size for our group and the staff had set it up so that we were all seated round one table and could chat to each other easily. As a tour guide who regularly leads trips to nearby Avebury, I called and made a reservation for Sunday lunch for our small group at 10am the day before. Unfortunately, no one answered the phone, so I left a message. When we arrived 27 hours later, the restaurant claimed they had tried to call me to inform me that they were full. Never eaten here before and decided to give it a try. So glad I did, what a fantastic menu and very well presented. I love spicy foods, and this must be the only restaurant I have found that serves Jamaican Jerk Chicken absolutely lovely. My wife had a pasta dish which she stated was the best she had tried in ages. Although it’s a 30min drive from where I live, I will without doubt be there again very soon. I didn’t have a dessert as I was full from the main course portion size! With great service and fantastic ales and wine it’s a no brainer. We haven't been here for a number of years, so thought that we would give it a try as my husband was given a voucher for his birthday. It was a miserable wet night, but on entering the pub it was a lovely surprise to find the heating on. The pub was lovely and warm and we were made very welcome from the moment we walked in. Our waitress was extremely friendly and accommodating even though she was dashing around greeting people, serving and clearing tables, she really was brilliant. The food was delicious and portions generous. All in all we had a great time and will definitely be going back. Thank you all for such a lovely evening.

We came here twice recently once fir lunch and yesterday fir an early dinner. Beautiful old traditional pub on the main road. I had sea trout on the lunchtime which was served on a bed of crushed new potatoes with a sauce and spring onions and peas. Absolutely delicious. My partner had the messy burger and she says it was one of the best burgers she’s ever had. Yesterday I had haddock and chips and it was also very good and good sized portions too. The service was good and staff were all very pleasant. I would definitely recommend this place .
We tried the bah bah burger and the feisty clucker burger (careful how you say that one). Both were delicious. The staff was friendly and helpful, and the food was excellent with generous portions. The drinks, especially the local cider, were really good. The prices were a bit high at £15 for a burger, but overall, we would definitely recommend a visit to this restaurant.
A huge thank you for all of the help from the two amazing ladies from lunch time today! I was stranded and in need of help and they were amazing! Whilst waiting to get back on my way I also sampled the pork and apple sauce Yorkshire pudding wrap which fab! Thanks you so much for your help and we will definitely be back for more of a planned visit!!
Excellent carvery! There was an abundance of delicious meats and well-prepared vegetables. The atmosphere was pleasant, the service was excellent - both friendly and efficient. We visited with family on a Sunday and were pleasantly surprised by the experience. This was by far the best carvery we have had in years.

We had to eat early in the evening, at 6, to go on to an event in Devizes. Friendly, helpful staff and a real pub interior. We only had time for a main course but the sea bream was excellent, as was the bah bah burger. Generous portions of good food so value for money and we very much enjoyed it.
Yes good looking pub .. However it’s locals only .. So don’t expect anything.. Tourists and outsiders ..Stay away
