we were in the local hotel and it was very convenient to eat in the wheatstone. in the past we had not much luck with the restaurants beside hotels, this time I am really happy that we did. it was very busy and the employees worked extremely hard to visit all. first I was worried that the service was bad. but it was good, slower than I used to, but that was a blessing. we didn't feel rushed and it was a nice atmosphere, but some people could be put down with waiting. I went for a seafood risotto with sea bass, we also had the gammon and steak. the sea bass, skalopps and risottoreis were perfectly cooked. the gammon was not the usual thin dry affair, but was thick and juicy. the steak was als...
Had lunch there last Sat. My wife had battered goujons and i had breaded scampi. When I politely queried why both meals were so small we were advised it was because of the Company 's portion control . I had no issue with the polite staff member who served us but I got the impression even he was embarrassed with what he served us. My plate consisted of a small handful of chips, very small dish of mushy peas and 8 small scampi, one of which was burnt. My wife had 4 small battered goujons spaced well apart on a ciabatta. Very poor value for money and although this is a our local sadly we will not be visiting again as it is certainly not good value for what we paid.
fantastic, tasty, super tasty eating but shocking, very slow service. terrible waiting time. just three waiters for over 40 tables. wait for the net, wait for the drinks, wait for the pudding, wait for the bill...Waiting, wait. super friendly and courteous staff (then you can only not cope with so many commands. where is the management, where is the owner?
The restaurant is decorated in a traditional style using recycled old building materials, with the indoor space cleverly divided into smaller sections. Outside, there are benches in front and behind the building, as well as proper tables and chairs for dining al fresco in good weather.

I frequently stay at the Premier Inn next door for business, which is very convenient. The staff is excellent and always friendly. The food is delicious, so enjoy your meal.

Fantastic service at the bar, the bartender Sam Bircher was quick and attentive and very hospitable. Drinks were nice and fair priced. Would go again.
