My family visited 'Fare' restaurant on a cold winter night. The first impression was a cool and stylish atmosphere. We quickly received the beverage list. However, I noticed a discrepancy between the hard copy menu and the online menu. The dish I wanted for my children had been changed to something more like pub food. I opted for the crispy herring, which turned out to be essentially fish and chips. While the batter and chips were crispy, the fish itself lacked flavor. This pub is not your old-fashioned pub, it offers more a cross over with a modern, higher food and beverage experience, but with a range of atmospheres: front bar, casual courtyard, formal food and balcony...Functions. The Whitmore Hotel retains the feel that the local Aussie pub had a couple of decades ago. It's friendly, unpretentious and has a local feel even if it's in the city. If you are lucky enough to be visiting Adelaide (Brad) and you want a bit of pub grub, some random live music and a beer for a reasonable price, then this is the place for you. The staff are friendly, very helpful and efficient, and meals came out pretty quickly. The food was tasty, big serves and again, unpretentious. It's not fancy, it doesn't have shiny seats or rows of the latest 'in' craft beer, but it does have a really welcoming atmosphere and all the basics you expect of a good pub.
If you are in Adelaide (bad luck!) and want somewhere to relax and forget that you are in Adelaide, this place is a must. Its a small pub, with live entertainment every night, the foods good if pubby and the place has the all important "vibe". Cant put my finger on it but it feels good. The staff are crazy , in a good way. They made us feel at home. Oh and they have Guinness on tap! I think the Whitmore is the best pub I have seen in Adelaide, which is just my taste so remember : its a traditional pub and not big on bells and whistles

All dressed up with renos, but still a rough pub. Bouncer thinks he works at UFC, and doesn 't mind shoving female bystanders. Promised the world for a function, but closed up early because we weren 't drinking enough, and not worth while . Overcharged on the tab,...for all the drinks paid for on the night. Obviously not pleased to have a group of 65 after all the restrictions we 've had and others still suffer. Just go somewhere else.
I would give this restaurant a zero rating if I could, aside from the rude employee. The employees act like they are the health inspectors. We overheard them making negative comments about another customer. The chefs they have hired are not skilled. My medium rare steak was overcooked and my friend's swordfish was dry. For the price we paid, we expect higher quality. The restaurant was mostly empty and now I understand why.
This restaurant is a lovely spot for either lunch or dinner. It has a wonderful atmosphere, friendly service, and serves high-quality food. I especially appreciate their feminist values and commitment to social responsibility. I was also impressed with how they took a stand during the pandemic to prioritize the safety of their customers.

The Whitmore Hotel used to be a strip club, and it still retains some of the stigma (and a few of the patrons) that it garnered during that period.
