Perhaps it was just poor luck, but our visit was anything other than a great experience. Both of us ordered the fish, each with a different sauce. When we asked for a wine recommendation, the waitress seemed clueless, and recommended the housewine. We both ordered...a 0.25l of the same wine. It was served in a glass filled to the top. We actually thought it was a joke. When we asked for different glasses, the waitress yelled across the room, that 'those people want different wineglasses '. Certainly did not make us feel very welcome. The food was served with basically no garnish, but the portion sizes were huge. Was wandering about Meersburg in the evening when I came across this quaint little tavern building enveloped by vine trellises. I had chanced upon one of my guidebook 's recommended restaurants without even looking for it! It was relatively early for dinnertime and I was quickly...ushered into the only non-reserved table in this cozy wine tavern by the lady owner/manager. I had the filet of Felchen (Bodensee white fish) cooked with leeks, tomatoes and a herb sauce served with spinach souffle and egg-based noodles. The portions are very hearty indeed- they serve you one portion first and keep the other portion warm til you are done with the first. I had the white wine Gutedel which I understa...

This hotel has a traditionally styled dining room but also a small terrace at the back which was a perfect location for dinner on a warm summer evening. One of us had a selection of small fish starters that looked and tasted great, the other...a small salad. We both had the Zander with a mustard foam, rosti potatoes and a small spinach souffle. The waitress said they would keep the rest warm, which turned out to be a second helping of he main meal. We also tried a bottle of the hotel's own white wine which was a good choice. I hadn't read any reviews but liked the menu and was pleased we tried it. It's in the old town and most people eat in the main square or by the lake. Look at this option...

Gutbuergerkiche Kueche means traditional German food an qulity for a good price. Family run verry experienced staff which speak many languages. Try the local wines, for instance the white Spaet Burgunder.
