It had been a few years since we last dined at Zocalo, but our recent visit proved that it was just as excellent as we remembered. While some of our favorite dishes were still on the menu, we were pleasantly surprised to see some new options as well. The selection at Zocalo stands out among the many restaurants in Charlottesville, offering innovative and exciting choices. I thoroughly enjoyed the perfectly cooked duck breast with a delicious sauce, braised chard, and an onion manchego bread pudding. My wife was more than satisfied with her salmon dish. Always good food with a nice presentation. We ate outside on a cozy early summer evening. We started by ordering mussels (not as spicy as shown and very good) and the spinach salad with fried oysters - all excellent. The main courses of pork chop and duck were well prepared. The chard with tiny pieces of bacon with the duck was a nice change. The cherry compote was a bit overwhelming. Tried the Bonarda red wine (usually matured in stainless steel so that it lacked the soft, fruity taste), but returned to a reliable Malbec. Had a server in training that did a good job; Her mentor didn't smile much, which was disappointing. Overall, a pleasant meal.
Zocalo was recommended to us by a family member and we were not disappointed. The food and drinks were amazing. Everything was fresh and had a wide range of visual and palate attractions. Each of us chose a different entre and we tried each other out. The WOWs went on around the table, from yellow tomato / cucumber gazpacho, meatballs, steak, softshell crabs, scallops ... delicious, delicious, delicious! All dinners came with beautiful pages that were incredible. I will definitely come again.
We have eaten here many times. Salmon is always great and so is the tuna tartare. The smoky groats and the cous cous are divine! They used to have delicious rolls that they served with olive oil. I was sad to see that they no longer offered them.

Wonderful scallops and our salmon selection was cooked to perfection. Sat outside, which was comfortable and the waiter was attentive.
This restaurant is a great spot with delicious food and welcoming service. Zocalo is definitely worth a visit.
