We were looking forward to a Japanese meal but were a little disappointed. We wanted some help selecting dishes but the young waiter was not of much help. We ordered a dumpling entree ourselves which was fresh and delicious. The waiter selected two dishes, a fish dish which was nice but nothing very different from a fish basket at the local surf club. The other dish we had was beef strips which were quite tough. Two nice desserts but nothing special. All in all we were a bit let down by our experience. We asked questions of the waiter to try and get help; he was very pleasant but he just did not know his product enough to help us enjoy some genuine Japanese food. At $116 for two it just was...
Tried Yume for the first time today. It was recommended by a friend and we weren't disappointed! The main Chef was away so the owner and his wife took care of us. Yume is an authentic Japanese corner restaurant at Dickie Beach. Having experienced many such eateries in Japan I must say it was home from home. Genda san served exactly what we wanted and did it perfectly. We had salmon, tuna and snapper sushi plus and our favourite, spicy negi salmon maki to order! He had never tried that before and it was perfect. A touch of fusion: the Asahi beer bottles were served with stubby holders. Excellent! We'll be back!
This was one of the best Japanese restaurants we've eaten at. Our family is a huge fan of Japanese food, my husband who has been to Japan, said it's the closest place to authentic Japanese he's come across in Australia. We stayed in an apartment near by and had planned to cook dinner in most of our stay, but discovered Yume and ended up eating dinner here 2 nights in a row it was that good. Highly recommend it, and can't wait to come back here again.
My partner and I went to Yume Japanese restaurant for dinner and had a sushi share platter (Sushimi on rice) and found it to be very delicious, and you could taste that it was very fresh. The Japanese beer and Premium saki were also very nice. We will definitely go back there again

We have dined in at Yume on several occasions over the past three or four years and the experience has been consistently excellent. Just recently we decided to get takeaway and true to form, the food was again delicious, well presented and reasonably priced.
The food is amazing and the staff are great! Would recommend the sushi boat.. it looks awesome and tastes great. Would definitely go back again and again!
