I've visited Z&L's two days in a row now. On the first day, I had the Sundae with brisket and pulled pork, which I would rate a 9.5. On the second day, I opted for the Sundae with double brisket and that deserves a solid 9.99. I deducted 0.01 because it was served in a plastic cup. Their hours can be a bit inconvenient for those looking to grab a meal after work, especially since they sometimes run out of food by the time dinner rolls around due to their popularity. However, I have to say that their brisket, pulled pork, and pulled chicken are absolutely phenomenal! The sides – BBQ beans, coleslaw, mac and cheese, and BBQ sauces – are also excellent. I was eager to try Zach and Lou, and it certainly did not disappoint. It felt like meat heaven! The brisket was the best I’ve ever had. The pork belly was deliciously rich, and the beans were hearty with a perfectly balanced BBQ flavor. I sampled all three sauces—spicy, sweet, and mustard—and they were all outstanding, though my favorite was the sweet one. I’ll definitely be coming back often. My husband and I went on a hike and were quite hungry afterward, so we decided to stop by Zach Lou's Barbecue on our way home. It was definitely worth the visit! The food was delicious, and the staff were incredibly friendly. I ordered the chopped sandwich with green beans and cornbread, while my husband chose the pulled pork sandwich with mac and cheese and cornbread. Both selections were fantastic, and we really enjoyed the variety of sauces that were available. Had about a 30-minute drive to come here and I'll say it was worth it! The smoked ceddar garlic sausage was incredible and cheesier as expected! The pulled chicken was also excellent and paired with the spicy bbq sauce. The Mac and the cheese were very good and the corn cake was homemade, which was a surprising note. To complete everything, the chocolate peanut butter cake was the perfect end! A must stop when you are in the area (and maybe if you don't)!
As the owner of a barbecue catering company south of Albany, NY, I couldn't resist taking a two-hour drive to try some barbecue on my day off. What an incredible experience! Often, you either come across large portions of meat or lengthy menus, but at Zach and Lou's, we found both! It's a fantastic family business that truly knows how to get it right. We'll definitely be making the trip again!
I 've been going to Zach and Lou 's since they opened. Always worth the trip, whether it be on the best of sunny days or the worst of hail storms. Probably in my top 5 pulled pork places. Brisket was good, mac n cheese was very good. I had the pork bomb baked potato and it was superb. I hope they bring the Idaho Spud truck back next year.
