This is restaurant used to be fantastic. It seems that things have unfortunately changed. A friend and I went for a meal and waited an extended period of time for service. Eventually I got up and got us menus. Then we waited a long time to be served, despite the fact that there were very few people in the restaurant. The servers seemed friendly enough when you stopped them but they didn't ask if we were ready to order or check on us after we had our meal. We had to ask multiple times for things and honestly the quality of the food was poor. I'm not sure why everything has changed but I won't be returning.
It's nice to find so many ethnic restaurants in St. John's. On a previous visit we discovered Zapata and were glad to find it again on this visit. The atmosphere is really comfortable and I must say they were playing really good music the day we were there.Food and service were both really good. Our server was new to Canada and she was clearly learning the language and the skills of serving quickly. She was lovely.Good solid Mexican food! Good service! What more can you ask?
We ate at Zapatas last evening and really enjoyed our meal. The atmosphere and food are both very good. The service was excellent. My husband had fajitas which he liked and I tried a combination plate which was very flavourful and definitely Mexican! The portions were very generous and we topped the meal off with fried bananas and bananas Santana.
Had a nice evening there with family. Food was presented quick and was just what I remembered. Lots of flavour. The lesser expensive food items dominated the plate. The good yummy protein and more expensive foods was scarce on the plate. Service was sketchy and haphazard. We won't race back there but had a nice time.

We were excited about dining at a Mexican restaurant. The ambience is dark and dreary and not very private. The menu consisted of a lot of the same thing with different names. The whole experience was disappointing and we won't be returning. Not good quality Mexican, which I enjoyed elsewhere.
Earlier this year we spent two weeks in Tucson, Arizona and I'd put Zapata's up against most all of the places we dined. Very well prepared meals with a mole sauce that was exceptional. Healthy servings and a really enjoyable dinner !!
We were planning to go to the popular brunch spot Jam but were intimidated by the standing only in the rain line and decided to check out Chambar.
Finally, I was able to check this place out.
First off I'm glad that this brunch locale has reservations, which was super convenient.

Excellent, prompt service. Delicious food and drinks, generous portions. Quiet atmosphere for catching up with a friend.
There are still stars in my eyes over my visit to Chambar.
