We paid (of which I asked for the check because service was slightly slow but I understood since it was a holiday)and upon arrival of check we tipped and signed. We were chatting for all of minutes when the hostess, or someone who happened to be helping with seating customers, came over an asked if we wanted to get something else or if they could move us to the bar since they had other reservations. Akai is a solid location for sushi in downtown Westfield. It’s also one of the few restaurants to hold a liquor license which is something to note (rare in Westfield). The seating is not optimal as it places tables as close together as possible to maximize the floor space. Additionally the outer perimeter is a single booth which makes getting in and out a little tricky if you’re seated on the comfy (booth like) side.
We always enjoy Akai, but for some reason last night the food was extra tasty. Not only was the sushi great (including a small special order from my wife), but the salmon teriyaki was extra good. Akai is not inexpensive, but the food quality is extremely high. Akai Gold Rush is a great drink (but I think it tasted better with the previous Japanese whiskey over the current blend). Akai is always a great and fun meal.
My favorite restaurant. The owners Lillian and James are the best. All the waiters are fantastic especially Pablo. The atmosphere is cozy, the food fabulous including their drinks you have to try the Grey Goose Saki Martini. Yummm. Best restaurant around

Overall pretty good sushi but not necessarily so good that it was worth the prices higher than normal. Our service was just okay (server himself was ok but seemed swamped). Not sure if we would bother to go back.
Very disappointing considering the ratings, but ratings in general have all gotten inflated. Noisy, but rock music was piped in on top. Waiter was polite, but very amateurish.
We always have a great time here. All employees are so friendly and attentive. And I had my favorite sushi roles until today! We can't wait to go back.

Very flexible menu if you have food allergies or want to eat low carb. The food was good, but the short ribs were tough.
