Located within the Northern Hotel so bathrooms are shared. Not particularly appealing to look at as the decor and style of the restaurant is pretty dated. Wooden bar and walls, heavy curtains, wooden tables and bulky wooden chairs. Just didn’t seem comfortable to sit and relax in. Also playing 90s music which I suspect is from a Now CD. Could do with a revamp to make the space more bright and open. Staff were friendly enough but there seemed to be some confusion over who was serving our table. In all fairness, this restaurant has experienced its share of challenges over the years, including changes in management. However, when we visited for lunch late last year, we were pleasantly surprised by how delicious the food was. We decided to give it another try today, and we were pleased to find that both the service and the quality of the food were excellent. The only downside was that there were no other diners besides us. The prices of the meals were reasonable and reflected the quality of the food. We had a wonderful Mother's Day meal at this restaurant. As always, we received a warm welcome from the owners and staff. The meal consisted of three courses, with a complimentary drink for the mother. Although the special menu for the day was not extensive and the portions were not very large, the food was delicious. The starters were particularly enjoyable. I would highly recommend this place.
During my wait for my car, I stayed at the Northern Hotel and used it as a base. I was 15 minutes late for the 10:00 breakfast cut-off, but the manager kindly arranged a delicious full Scottish breakfast for me. The food was excellent, the free wifi allowed me to work while I waited, and the bar staff were friendly and accommodating.

We've been lunching at the Northern Hotel for many years, but standards have never been as high as they are now. The menu offers a fabulous choice and the food is excellent. Service was not always great in the past, but now it's fast as well as friendly. Prices are very reasonable, too, so it's good value for money.
Ate here in January with my mother and a friend... food was very good and nicely presented buy why the chips with everything? Mum's salad was great and our friend's soup of the day was, according to her, excellent. I had lasagne and would have much preferred a larger portion and no chips!

Popped in by chance as was passing through Brechin and seen the Sunday carvery sign outside. Well worth it, food was amazing and friendly staff. everything was first class. Will def be back again
