Not a surprise that the restaurant is 34 out of 43 restaurants in Gstaad. Me and my friends were visiting Gstaad for one day, and saw this restaurant which looked very nice in terms of design. What a mistake to choice the restaurant by the atmosphere, I honestly have never had a worse beef tartar than in this place. I had a feeling that the tartar came straight away from the cow! No seasoning, no nothing. Just imagine eating just a raw meat.. did not even finish it half way trough. Another point, never I have seen that there was no side for tartar: salad or french fries? Bad value is expected in gstaad- appalling service is what you shouldn't receive with the high prices. Basta broke with tradition and displayed incredibly bad service- took 20min to get the water. Waitress was upset to be asked for butter. Manager and waitress were intently engaged in a series of arguments during the course of a rather unpleasant late lunch. A shame as the poor chefs in the open kitchen were diligent and prepared the food well. We should have just dealt with them directly.
Returned to Basta after many years. This was a pleasant experience. It is a simple and small cafe featuring Italian cuisine.Had a very tasty steak tartare with arugula and figs. My husband enjoyed a most unusual spaghettini with nuts and a light green sauce. It was the nightly pasta special. Not a pesto sauce. The service was good. The open kitchen is wonderful to watch. You will see your meal being prepared with great care.Glad we gave it a second chance.
We were staying in the hotel and while we really enjoy Swiss food we finally decided to try it and in fact returned the next night. This place is really good and if only more Italian restaurants could prepare the meals as they do I would become a convert. Ignore the previous bad reviews. By Gstaad standards this is a very reasonably priced restaurant and the staff could not have been nicer. Go here!!
