I went to Birichino last night. The restaurant was half emptty but we were given a really badly located small two seater table in a thoroughfare and were told we couldn't sit elsewhere. Then two women came in and were shown to a large four seater table. When we were served we were not offered any accompaniments. When the two wmen ordered the same thing they were given two accompaniments. I couldn't catch the waiters attention and had to go to the bar and ask for the accompaniments. During the night, the waiters were very attentive to the few customers who were there and were well known, but we were basically ignored. I quite often go to this Pizzeria as It offers genuine Italian meals and of course great Pizza.Unlike some pizza places whose size is such that the food quality is variable and the venues feed more than 75 diners at one time which often results in customers eating warm pizzas not hot ones , This Pizzeria is smallish, you receive personal attention, top class southern Italian meals and great pizzas. It accepts B Y O (with corkage fee ) but its own wine list is more than intresting.There is good parking over Whitehorse rd travelling south down Balwyn road on L H S Its about 100 meters from this Cucina.You can travel by tram on the 109 line and alight just 50 meters or less from the front door.
If you love Italian food, real Italian food- like the kind you would receive in a warm, happy Italian family environment, then this is the restaurant for you.The food is authentic and beautiful – the Pizzas are magnificent, the lasagne and pastas are the real deal and when celebrated with the Italian wine (great recommendation)- it is delicious. Everyone at our table had a different desert and each had a grin of delight. This food and wine is complimented by happy and helpful staff who make you feel part of the warm family environment. We will return !!
Luckily we weren't looking for a quiet night out, as the restaurant was busy and very noisy. The food was hot and very tasty, we chose dishes to share including octopus and zucchini fritters and all were great, with good serving sizes, we also enjoyed the tiramisu for dessert. The wine list was small and quite expensive, there are also a number of beers and a few cocktails available. Friendly staff, we will definitely return.

All we do when we come to Melbourne is eat out and try different places every time. Melbourne is a plethora of fantastic food experiences and they are all very good as there is a lot of competition out there. Great Italian family atmosphere, great food and wine. Our table had a good view of the street traffic and pedestrians which provided some amusement. Kids well catered for. Happy to come back again for another visit.
My wife and I went here looking for some delicious wood fired pizza and that is exactly what we got! The pizzas were absolutely yummy and the pizza bases were very fresh. The restaurant is a small little family run place with cosy seating. There are drinks available too and the staff is very friendly! I had the birichino pizza which is highly recommended!
Just back from a quick dinner at Birichino. Packed on a Tuesday night but still good service and lovely food. The deep fried Cauliflower was spot on, as was the sausage and potatoes as a starter. The Pizza was as good as ever. Always quick with Takeaway orders as well.
This Italian restaurant is simply worth a visit with totally delicious food, friendly service, and a chef who will alter the menu to suit, if you have dietary restrictions. Medium priced meals.

Ate there with friends on a Friday night. Service was good and food was tasty, had pizzas and Mussels. Pizza bases a bit soggy but tasty. BYO so thats good. OK local for something quick.
