I was walking back from Westfield to Liverpool Railway Station when the heavens above opened up.....Quickly sought refuge in The Black Rose Cafe on George Street and decided on having something to eat as it was already past 1 pm.They have a Lunch Menu and Daily Specials apart from an extensive A La Carte menu. They are also fully licensed and offer a decent range of wines, beers, cocktails and spirits.Adequate seating is available both indoors and al fresco - the latter has a covering to guard against the elements which was required today.....I opted for the Italian Sausage Panini which came with caramelised onions, rocket, roasted capsicum and provolone. A decent portion and went down well...
Black Rose is a local haunt of mine, but purely as the coffee, food and service are all excellent. Over the last year a new chef Roberto is on board and he has taken the food from good hearty Italian to a far new level. An amazing array of standard dishes along with great specials and on this evening I tried the Ossobucco, the meat was perfectly cooked, tender and tasty from the sauce, it was sitting on a saffron infused Risotto and the harmony was spot on. For desert Affogato to combine with the excellent local coffee.
We were there for a private function of 40 people and had the place to ourselves. 3 courses coffee.Overall good and the staff tried very hard and put on a good event.Criticisms - scallops for starters looked good and had great mouth feel but lacked flavor. Rolled chicken breast for main was a little dry. Panacotta with berries for desert was lovely. Codes were good fast and efficiently served.I'd be happy to go back.
From the outside this cafe doesn't appear that great. It's an average looking place, but don't let that fool you. The food is very good and there is a fair sized menu to choose from. I had the pulled pork burger and it is very nice. The salaries and pizzas are also very good.

Went for breakfast and was pleasantly surprised. It was a bit stuffy inside, so we sat outside. I had the veggie stack with scrambled eggs and my friend had the eggs benedict with ham. The bread was stretchy and soggy. Maybe they could toast it next time?
My husband and I were on our way to somewhere else when we stumbled upon The Black Rose cafe and how very glad we did. The service was friendly and helpful, the atmosphere was good and the food was amazing! We will be back again and again!
My sister and I got a voucher from Groupon for breakfast for 2. We really enjoyed hot chocolate and eggs benedict. The servings were huge, food was really good and the service was great! We'll be getting pizzas next.
Just finished a big breakfast. It was so big we couldn't finish it all. Friendly manager. Coffee was great. Nice and laid back. Will happily come back.

Food was well presented and delicious. My niece had eaten at Black Rose twice the week before and said the food has been so nice and staff excellent.
