We found this restaurant in the Entertainment Book. We drove a half hour to get to it from where we live, so we were really hoping for a good meal. We definitely got it. Usually, I have found, at Thai restaurants, food comes out at all different times. For example, some people have often finished their entree (or had to start it to avoid it getting cold) while others still wait for theirs (and same during main course). Not at Blue River. Just tucked away from Maling Road past the railway bridge sits Blue River Thai, with an un imposing frontage but a real gem. Inside, the décor is a deep blue carpet, pale colored walls adorned with Thai themed pictures and artifacts, dimmed lighting, white table cloths and black timber cushioned chairs. Large front windows let in plenty of light with a view across Canterbury road to shops and the railway station and at the rear of the longish room is the well appointed bar. Dined here on Sat night as a group of 4. Last minute booking so good we could easily get in. Food was tasty – we enjoyed the satay chicken and tom yum soup with prawns for entrée (nice and spicy), panang lamb curry, pad khing (ginger) with beef and red curry with tofu & veges for main along with coconut rice and roti – I loved the rice and roti – really done well. For dessert one of us had vanilla ice cream – get 3 scoops so good value – I asked for only 1 scoop of coconut ice cream and it was a nice way to finish a good meal. 5 of us here for a pre-Mothers Day family meal. We chose the Queen Banquet and were not disappointed. All components of the banquet were excellent from the 'different' prawn crackers and dips to the coconut or mango ice cream at the end. Lots and lots of prawns in between. We have tried 5 Thai restaurants in the area and feel that this may not be the best in decor but certainly best food and value. Corkage of $2.50pp seems about standard these days.

Within walking distance so one can take a bottle of wine we are regular users of Blue River Thai in Canterbury. Friendly service and an extensive menu that covers all food allergies means we can always find tasty and exotic food. Able to chat easily as tables not too close together and little interference from other diners. Always a pleaseant evening.
Catching up with friends, we had an enjoyable meal at Blue Thai. The food was very good. The restaurant is somewhat over lit which somewhat detracts from the atmosphere.Service was good and meals arrived at about the right intervals. Worth a revisit in the future.
Quite popular restaurant, with reasonably priced and good quality cuisine. Ambiance is ok and service very nice. Popular with families and take away customers.
I loved it here when I went because I had a great time! I wish tho, they served you instead of picking up your own food and ordering at the counter.
