I grew up eating a lot of Cajun food. My dad and his side of the family were from Louisiana. So Cajun food was kind of a staple around my house. The atmosphere at Buzzard Billy's gave of a good friendly vibe. It was very busy but they seemed to move people's orders through quickly. I got the bayou platter because I wanted to try a few of their options. I was very pleased with how good the food was. One of my favorite Cajun dishes growing up was always red beans and rice. I absolutely love this restaurant! Let's get right to it: the food is amazing, the prices are reasonable, and the portions are generous. The atmosphere is relaxed and comfortable. My wife and I visited for the first time and enjoyed ourselves so much that we returned the very next day. I want to give a special shoutout to Dan and Taylor—the best bartenders in Des Moines, without a doubt! Coming from Florida, we were truly impressed by the hospitality in Des Moines, but Dan and Taylor made us feel like locals, which meant so much to us. We had a fantastic time—thank you both!
Upon our arrival, the restaurant was quite busy, which was completely understandable. The service was excellent—everything was served promptly, and the staff was very friendly towards my children. The food was delicious; I ordered the Cajun Club Sandwich, and the smoky flavor was the standout for me. Although I didn't really taste the jalapeño in the bacon, it was still one of the best club sandwiches I've ever had. My daughters were thrilled to receive ice as part of their children's meals. We will definitely return when we come back to town.
We stumbled upon this place and it turned out to be a fantastic surprise. The exterior didn’t give much away, but the interior had a fun, sports bar vibe. While our hostess was not particularly warm, our server was very friendly and made us feel welcome. The cocktails were delightful, and we thoroughly enjoyed the blackened catfish and shrimp creole. Great place with some really good Cajun food. Would definitely recommend the armadillo eggs as they were incredible. Good atmosphere with that food. The portions here are pretty big so we were able to take plenty of food home. The alligator here is also really good and one of the only places I know to get it here in Des Moines. We will be returning to try more of the food as the menu had many good looking options
Considering the overall quality, I was left unsatisfied. While I know they hope for good tips, it's hard to justify tipping when the drinks were like this. You might think I'm being picky, but when I spend over $100 on a meal and receive this level of service, it makes me reconsider returning. To make matters worse, there were flies buzzing around while we ate, making it a struggle to keep them off our food.
Was here 4-11-22 at 6 p.m. A little while to get a seat no one was before Reasturant, sat at the bar got service immediately, ordered a beverage waitress (blonde lady not caught her name) was fast, got me food menu and got my order in directly away food was out fast I ordered the Armadillo eggs and Cajun Combo, which recommended the waiters were not ready a lot, they were delicious, good food once

Great food and service I hand the Bayou sampler there's more than enough to eat lol. My wife had the blackened Tilapia and it was delicious and great portion and I should mention the Giant cheese sticks too. We set outside on their balcony. I would recommend you try it out.
