This place gets three stars; they allowed me to drink before I bought anything. Seventy-three degrees outside, and I am walking down Ashby heading towards my kid’s elementary school to pick them up. I got lightheaded and began to feel overwhelmed with weakness. I had two empanadas from a restaurant closer to my home that I had picked up for my kids to eat as an afternoon snack. I stopped at the cafe to brace myself and ask for water, afraid I was suffering a heatstroke. The guy behind the counter pointed to the water on a table and some cups. So grateful I began drinking, but that wasn’t enough. I needed something else quickly. I opened the box I had no intention of eating and started eating...

The Mini Beignet Chocolate Trio (White, Dark, Hazelnut) arrived cold and tasted more like filled donut holes, nothing like the hot, fresh ones I'm used to. I knew they were imported but didn’t expect them to be delivered cold. The Dulce de Leche Bar looked nothing like the picture and was actually a cream cheese-based dessert, which was disappointing—who likes false advertising? The Lemon Bar had a strong eggy taste and smell that put me off. I really dislike overly eggy lemon bars because it's such a fine line to avoid overcooking the eggs in the lemon custard. The lemon bar was also difficult to unwrap due to the powdered sugar on top. Honestly, I could have done without it. I think I need...

The empanadas are not really big (I'd get 2 at least), but the amount of filling is generous. The outside pastry is thin and soft rather than flaky. Tried the...steak chunks of tender meat well flavored by sliced bell pepper and onionchicken peppery stewed chicken mushroom full of sliced mushrooms and a little melty cheeseeggplant and tomato soft eggplant and tomato filling with a few whole chickpeas peach mildly sweet, not syrupy, but peach slices were the canned texture (but it was full of peach!)Overall, tasty and not skimping on the filling. Good for an on the go bite.

Amazing empanadas. Better than a lot of the empanadas I had in Argentina. These are much larger than Argentinian empanadas and the dough is much better than anything I could find in Buenos Aires. I highly recommend the beef and the mushroom empanadas. Chicken was good But the other two are better unless you don't eat beef or mushroom and cheese. Also you absolutely have to get the chocolate croissant they make using Mexican chocolate and a coffee with it. Book a table now

Didn’t have a great experience here because the barista was spacey and never made my drink, even after a gentle prod. After noticing lots of people ordering and getting their stuff before me, I asked him about my cortado and he looked at the order receipt line up, then got distracted and went to a different station. I took a peek at the line up and didn’t see my name, so just decided to leave. The empanadas did look good, though.

This Is my neighborhood coffee place and I just love it. Coffee is world class. Also the empanadas (I like extra sauce! pastries and lemon bars. That reminds me I need to go back and try their beignets. I will probably dress all in white since I am such a messy eater!Wheelchair accessibility: No steps to get in

Nothing beats enjoying a hot empanada and a cup of coffee on a weekday morning at Cafe Buenos Aires. The food is outstanding, the coffee is excellent, the people are wonderful, and the atmosphere is unbeatable. This is definitely my favorite cafe in Berkeley.

These were some of the best empanadas I’ve had in my life! It was fast and so so delicious! I loved that the dough wasn’t too thick or too dry. And the chimichurri was insanely good too. Just go here and get your empanadas!! Book a table now
