I went to this café because of the great reviews given by others, but I guess that whether you end up liking this place or not depends on how long you've spent in Berlin and what you're general expectations are. The pros: nice location, possibility...to sut outside, nice interior design, the fact that you can both have a meal here and hunt for cheap second hand books. Cons: The breakfast and coffee are very average. I got the Allee breakfast (continental breakfast) with a cappuccino. The coffee I got pretty fast, but I had plenty of time to drink it, since breakfast was delayed for some reason. When I asked the waitress when I would get my food, she just said that she had no idea. I got it s...

Cafe Tasso is one of those places that you just have to love. It's a combination between a book store and a restaurant cafe. The book store is specialized in second hand books which are all sold at 1 EUR per piece (I think there is some discount if you buy plenty, like 6 for the price of 5 or so). In terms of books it's safe to say that you find anything you are looking for: children's books, cook books, specialized literature on math, biographies -- you name it. I think most of the books are written in German but I have never paid close attention to the share of English ones.As a cafe/ restaurant it is a place where you feel at home and at ease from the minute you enter. There is a limited n...

I have been to Cafe Tasso in Berlin on several occasions now. I was introduced to it initially by a friend from Berlin. This venue is perfect for a quiet, leisurely, romantic breakfast. The setting: a beautiful second-hand book store! My wife and I were only last in Berlin for a weekend visit, but managed to squeeze in not one, but two brunch visits to Cafe Tasso during our trip. We love the "Tasso" breakfast, which is a share breakfast for two including a glass of prosecco each. Included are a whole host of beautiful treats including cheeses, cured meat, soft boiled eggs, beautiful homemade hummus, salad, fruit, delicious pastries, beautiful fresh bread, honey, etc etc. I highly recommend t...

This is a great place to relax with a book or a newspaper (or your on-screen subscriptions for those about technology - wifi included in the price), sipping some nice coffee or a delicious home-made soup, in a quiet and modest atmosphere, with oldish armchairs, a shabby piano and free seating all over. My personal choice for food here are soups. This shop is a clever symbiosis of a small book store and a local family-style coffee-shop, similar to some of those in downtown NY or SF bay area. Evening readings or music events are organised regularly, check the schedule. Book a table now

Chocolate cake with lemon? Chocolate cake with pear filling? Me neither! But one was as delicious as the other (we shared) and I shall be going back to Tasso soon to try their lunch menu all organic, too. Their programme of evening events (folk,...jazz and more) looks good too. Furniture shabby but comfortable, German daily papers ready to hand.

After a walk down Karl Marx Allee carry on about 100 yards down Frankfurter and you'll find this Café come bookshop. I thought it was outstanding, we stopped and had a beer and a healthy and tasty lunch. It's not to everyone's taste but the service was friendly and efficient. Free wi-fi too for those who like such things.

Nice place for breakfast / lunch (not sure about diner), in an alternative environment: you're surrounded by books they sell for 1 Euro each. And, very important: outdoor seating with a great view on the impressive Allee that was used for DDR parades.

We came here on a rainy day and sat inside looking out with some delicious lattes. Very calm ambience with books all around and there’s no pressure to finish up once you’re done. A very relaxing experience overall. Book a table now

Nice spot with a great breakfast/brunch selection & good coffee. Love the jazz music in the background and the book store concept. Very funky in a hippy kind of way. Defo worth. Visit if you are in the area
