Calu is not an authentic Peruvian restaurant. I tried the papa a la huancaína, and it had an unusual smell, with the sauce tasting bitter. The bistec was tasteless, and the most concerning part was that it was undercooked in some areas and red inside. I usually don’t criticize food, but after it upset my stomach, I felt compelled to share my experience! If you're looking for true Peruvian cuisine, I suggest checking out the menu at Leña y Carbon instead!
I just placed an order, and I have to say, it was quite disappointing. The tostones were mediocre; the center was soft and lacked any crunch. They were delivered in a small container, but that didn’t help much. As for the chicken chaufa rice, it had an off-putting smell when I opened the container, and the taste was no better. My friend felt the same. I ended up wasting $20, but what can you do?
This isn't a real peruvian restaurant. I got papa la huancaina which smelled bad and sauce tasted bitter. The bistec also had no taste, whatever but what was the worse part was that it was Red in some areas. Wasn't fully cooked. I'm not 1 to critiquefood, but when my stomach hurt cus of this , ima tell it like how it is! Order from Leña y carbon for real peruvian food!
Calu is truly a hidden gem! I appreciated the convenient parking, but what really impressed me were the food and the staff. The cheerful waitress offered fantastic recommendations from both the Dominican and Peruvian menus. My Lomo Saltado was exceptional, and the chaufa I brought home was absolutely delicious! Just ordered. Literally. Tostones were ok. Middle isnt hard. Its squishy and the slices arent crunchy. They were in a small container through delivery but def not for long. Chicken chaufa rice smelled gross when i opened the container. Tastes bad.Friend also agrees. Wasted $20 but its w.e.
While visiting the area, we discovered this hidden gem. We tried the Peruvian cuisine, and everything was absolutely delicious. We ordered ceviche, papa a la huancaina, pollo saltado, and pollo chaufa. It was all wonderful!
I’ll let the photo do the talking—this is a $13 plate. I was hoping this could be my new favorite Spanish restaurant, but after my first visit, I won’t be coming back.
