Just popped in to try a couple of whiskies before dinner. Lucky to get the final 2 seats in the bar (around 7pm time Not being a whisky drinker we asked for advice and the bar man said he always recommends the local ones as not only are they good but they're also small batch. We took his advice and had a dram each of a bottle that had dolphins on the label from the Thompson Bros Distillery (just next door we had it straight up (the horror on his face when we asked for one ice cube : it was really very good. A slight burn of the throat but extremely smooth. We had time to try another, this time I asked to try a speyside. I smelt it and it was almost sherry smelling. 11 year Glenallachie. This...

The bar has excellent and very deep selection of venerable rare and vintage bottlings all available to purchase drams of at fair prices considering the rarity of whiskies that go back as far as the 1950s and in one case 1937! Also a great selection of independent bottlings by the Thompson Brothers (who have a micro distillery on site), Single Malt Whisky Society, and loads of special and unique single casks you won’t find at more than a few specialist whisky bars in Scotland and England. We focused on Thompson Brothers and SMWS, but also treated myself to a birth year 1974 Invergordon 46yo single cask for just £20 a dram, a cracking dram with loads of history and a gloriously smooth finish!...
Staying in Dornoch for a week, looked for somewhere for a drink and dinner on a Monday evening. Thought we’d give this a try and it was wonderful. We got speaking to some lovely people over a huge wood fire in the bar. Thought we’d see if there was a table available in the restaurant and we were lucky. The scallop and black pudding starter was delicious but the main of duck breast was stunning!! To a person the staff were lovely and we had a wonderful evening! Many thanks x
During our two-night stay at the hotel, we decided to dine at the restaurant on the second night. While the menu wasn't extensive, I found my meal to be delightful. I tried the twice baked cheese souffle for the first time and thought it was delicious. The duo of chicken that followed was beautifully cooked, and I ended the meal with a raspberry pavlova. If we ever find ourselves in the area again, I would definitely dine here once more. Book a table now
We did not stay in the hotel but we did eat lunch in the restaurant. The food and service were excellent. The Haggis bonbons as a side were very tasty and worthy of a separate mention. The plate of local langoustines as a main, although messy to eat, were exceptional. Breaded haddock and chips and a very filling beef, chorizo burger also outstanding. This place gets my recommendation for lunch in this delightful town.
I recently visited the whisky bar during a trip to the highlands. Ben was incredibly knowledgeable and helped me discover new whiskies that I had never tried before. I also had the chance to purchase whisky and gin made by the Dornoch distillery. It was a fantastic evening, thank you.
Stopped by during overnight stay at local B&B. Food was very good. Chicken breast cooked really well followed by a shared cheese board. All hit the spot and reasonably priced.
The menu was quite limited, and the dish I ordered was simple without any presentation efforts. However, the bar area was very nice and the rooms were comfortable. Book a table now
Managed to get a table reservation and thoroughly enjoyed our meal. Although the restaurant was busy, the staff were friendly and attentive. Recommended.

"Liver and onions was creamy and tasty. This is a quiet small hotel restaurant and a very nice menu. The sticky toffee pudding was unfortunately store bought and just average but enjoy the main course."

"Very poor quality food. My two children couldn’t eat anything of the very limited offer on “curry only” night, sadly reminiscent of school dinners!"
