Clearly inconsistent, reviews could not be more disparate and not just from one off reviewers who had a really good or really bad evening and so wrote one intemperate review but by experienced, candid reviewers who have had extremely different experiences. We booked on line, a mistake as seatings were either too early or too late for our preference. We went with too early intending to go out for drinks afterwards. I love duck and the roasted duck was the dish which had attracted me only to find that it wouldn't be available until later, not unreasonably but nevertheless disappointing. The food we did have was excellent, the service also a bit up and down, a waiter friendly and knowledgable,...

It seems the negative reviews on here are just oblivious to what is considered good Japanese food. We had four dishes and they were all exceptional quality. We went for the a la carte. The sashimi was superb, super fresh, nice cut, great texture - it will be hard if not impossible to find anything better in Canberra. Love the maguro and hamachi. Great pickled ginger. The Sushi came brushed with sauce, rice was firm the taste was just right. Katsu curry was very good, although slightly salty to our taste. The miso soup was not salty with nice deep aroma. Miso cod was great although a bit too much of the miso. It came with nicely seasoned potatoes and broccolini. Desert was good, wished we had...
I'm very sorry to say that this was not great the night we went. The food was okay but even the sashimi was nothing special. The service was polite but really bad, no training? Staff were standing around talking with each other and not attending to customers at all. After waiting patiently each time, we had to ask for drink service and to order. The plates were cleared as the next dishes came out and the last lot were never cleared. We ended up putting them on the empty table beside us, they were there that long. The food took a long time to come out (with very few customers) and not all together. At $100 a head I expect more than this. Sorry but we won't be back.
Great food in Lonsdale! The fish is fresh and good, best sashimi I have found in Canberra (after searching for more than a year). Tried the tacoyaki (battered octopus), the wasabi marinated octopus, mixed sushi, mixed sashimi and they were all great! And do yourself a favor and try the oysters: they have a great balance between sauce/seasoning and flavor. Last time I went they had also sake in promotion which is pretty nice for a hot summer afternoon, chilled and not very sweet. However, would recommend a menu that lets know all the great flavors that you can taste in each dish! It is real and good quality food. Have and will come back again Book a table now
I came here because of a RiotACT article about best ramen in town. Upon entering the place is pretty empty and I understood why after looking at the price. I was determined to try the ramen, and I must say the ingredients used were superb - fresh noodles, real pork broth, gluey onsen egg, aromatic pork. However, the final stage of cooking was careless and ruined it. The noodles all stuck together and it was a little cold, -1 point. Then the customer service was relatively poorer compare to other Braddon restaurants with that price, and it was saved barely by the ambience. I don't think I will come back.
Probably the most rubbish restaurant in Braddon. Of the three dishes I wanted to try, they had none of them and I had to settle for an overpriced eel dish, which was barely warm, cost nearly $30 and was appallingly tiny. Despite being only one of two groups in the place, it took a very long time for the meals to be served, and they didn't serve everything all together. The wait staff forgot the order of two people in our group. One of the waitresses didn't even know what was on the menu or what food was available. On top f it all, they were not apologetic, and basically quite rude.
Unfortunately very disappointing! :( Looks really good inside. Good location on Lonsdale.. However it is very overpriced and the food and service is very average. As other reviews pointed out, more training is needed for the waitstaff. Sashimi wasn't very fresh, main was a rubbery fish on a bed of potato salad. Entrees weren't too bad. Would love to see these guys succeed, this place could be awesome! Turn it into an affordable ramen bar, keep the beer on tap! Canberra is craving that!
We've been to Chaki Chaki a few times now and each time the food has been amazing. It's fresh and authentic and the staff are lovely. We get the pancake, fried tofu, eel and eggplant and have never been disappointed. The servings aren't huge but that's what you expect with Japanese cuisine. We'd rate it on par with our favourite Japanese restaurants in Sydney and Melbourne. Book a table now
The service was good food wonderful i would fully recommend a visit here if you enjoy Japanese Asian fusion . Its a little bit hidden of the main street you have to go upstairs but the signage is obvious. We went for lunch ob my return to Canberra i will certainly visit again .

"Comfortable, clean, attentive service. The portions can be inconsistent. I ordered the Avocado bruschetta, unfortunately it was drowning in a heavy balsamic thickened sauce which totally overpowered the delicate flavor of the avocado"
