I never go to Bagnères without having dinner at Loulou's. This is the place to go when you are in the area. Over the past 20 years I have introduced many of my friends, including a number of Americans to this typical Pyrenean restaurant. There you can taste the "Garbure" and wonderful game dishes prepared with love by Loulou and his team. The portions are over generous, but keep some appetite for the local cheeses and delicious deserts followed by a large serving of Armagnac. I highly recommend the experience whenever you are in the area.
It was out first visit, but even on approaching the restaurant we knew it was going to be good. The atmosphere was excellent, the waitress was friendly and polite, as she showed us to our pre-booked table. Three of us ordered a five course pre-set menu, soup, charcuterie, main meat course, cheese and dessert. The soup would've been sufficient as there was enough for about 6 people. Located on the col des palomieres, near Bagnères-de-Bigorre, there is a spectacular view, both north and south (pic du Midi). The food is very good (the spectacular garbure) and perhaps the rations too abundant. We have to go hungry. The cook is a whole character.
I've been to this place many times, and always ate very well. Don't eat anything else the day you go to LouLou! After a massive feast of traditional mountain fare, you'll finish off with a dose of armagnac from a beaker bottle. Roll home!
